The structure is in sound condition. Though more than 20 years old, the bolted connections show little corrosion. The solar panels to be mounted on the roof have a design load of 55 lbs. each including mounting hardware. Each panel has dimensions of 51"x 39" (see attached information sheet). The resultant uniform load is 4 psf. The original calculations from "Capitol" indicate a design roof live load of 20 psf (see sheet C-1). The design live load required for Butte County is 16 psf. Therefore, the original calculations account for both the required standard plus the additional 4 psf added by the proposed solar panels. Thank you for your consideration. For your protection, you should be aware that as "owner -builder" you are the responsible party of record on such a permit Building permits are not required to be signed by property owners unless they are personally performing their own work. If your work is being performed by someone other than yourself, you may protect yourself from possible liability if that person applies for the proper permit in his or her name. Contractors are required by law to be licensed and bonded by the State of California and to have a business license from the city or county. They are also required by law to put their license number on all permits for which they apply - If you plan to do your own work, with the exception of various trades that you plan to subcontract, you should be aware of the following information for your benefit and protection: ♦ If you employ or otherwise engage any persons other than your immediate family, and the work (including materials and other costs) is '$300 or more for the entire project, and such persons are not licensed as contractors or subcontractors, then you may be an employer. ♦ If you are an employer, you must register with the State and Federal Governments as an employer and you are subject to several obligations including state and federal income tax withholding, federal social security taxes, workers compensation insurance, disability insurance costs, and unemployment compensation contributions. ♦ There may be financial risks for you if you do not carry out these obligations, and these risks are especially serious with respect to worker's compensation insurance. ♦ For more specific information about your obligations under Federal Law, contract the Internal Revenue Service (and, if you wish, the U.S. Small Business Administration). For more specific information about your obligations under State Law, contact the Department of Benefit Payments and the Division of Industrial Accidents. If the structure is intended for sale, property owners who are not licensed contractors are allowed to perform their work personally or through their own employees, without a licensed contractor or subcontractor, only under limited conditions. A frequent practice of unlicensed persons professing to be contractors is to secure an "owner builder" building permit, erroneously implying that the property owner is providing his or her own labor and material personally. Building permits are not required to be signed by property owners unless they are performing their own work personally. Information about licensed contractors may be obtained by contracting the Contractors State License Board in your community or at 1020 N Street, Sacramento, CA. 95814. Please complete the "Owner Builder Verification" on the reverse side of this form so that we can confirm that you are aware of these matters. The building permit will not be issued until the verification is returned. rely, Mic el C. Vi ira, C.B.O. We verified that, the materials used in this assembly were in conformance with the requirements of section 2 (Bolts, Nuts, Washers and Paint) and section 3 (Bolted Parts) of the RCSC Specifications. The bolts used in this structure are 7/8 diameter A325 grade high strength bolts without hardened steel washers beneath hardened steel nuts. We were not present during the installation of the high strength bolts or the tensioning of joints. The Delayed Verification Inspection procedure was performed. No washers were used in this assembly, so the client indicated to us that the Turn -of -Nut Tightening method was used. We visually inspected each bolted connection in the structure to verify that all faying surfaces were tight with no gaps present. A . three foot wrench was applied to several random connections to assure that all connections were tightened. No loose bolts or rotation of the bolts were encountered in the structure. Each bolt assembly was installed and tightened by the contractor prior to our arrival. There were a total of 72 bolts in the structure, all were inspected using the above mentioned procedure. Based on the above mentioned procedure and to the best of our knowledge, it is our judgment that all A325 high strength bolts installed in the structure have been tightened in this structure. However, this inspection was not executed in accordance with the RCSC Specifications for Structural Joints contained in the AISC Manual for Steel Construction. FAx (530) 534-0902 RE: Solar Panels @ Existing Shop at the Residence of John Anderson Dear Sirs: An inspection performed on 2/1/03 of the existing "Capitol" metal building, constructed circa 1981.on Mr. Anderson's property, verified that the building was constructed in accordance with the engineered plans. The structure is in sound condition. Though more than 20 years old, the bolted connections show little corrosion. The solar panels to be mounted on the roof have a design load of 55 lbs. each incl udin mounting hardware. Each panel has dimensions of 51"x 39" (see attached information sheet). The resultant uniform load is 4 psf. The original calculations from "Capitol" indicate -a design roof live load of 20 psf (see - sheet C-1).. The design live load required for Butte County is 16 psf. Therefore, the original calculations account for both the required standard plus the additional 4 psf added by the proposed solar panels. Thank you for your consideration. 533-2131 if you have any questions Thank you sell, P.E. Frederick, MD 21.703 Attn: Eric SchalIa Date of observation of test: March 19, 2001 Subject: 50 lb. #/sq. Test of BP Flat Mount Solar 4 -module Model BP -21505 TEST SETUP FLAT MOUNT: Four BP Solar 31.1"x 62.6" long modules were bolted to 1.5" x 1.5" x 130" supports using a combination of 10 Ea. 5/16" stainless steel bolts, lock washers and specially extruded inserts. The mounting channel was attached to the module mounting with a 3/8" nut and washer at six attachment points to a Tile Trac mount. The Spans tested consisted of a front to rear of 48". The entire set up was attached to 4" x 6" beams with 5/16" x 3" lag bolts. The entire test set up rested on the concrete floor. The Tile Trac mount will support BP 5160-70s, BP 2140-50S, BP MSX150, BP SX145-55S, BP5160-70U, BP 2140-50U photovoltaic modules. Test Procedure: The test set. up was then loaded using sandbags that produced an equivalent 50#/sq.ft. loading. Upon completion of the placement of the sandbags the maximum deflection that occurred was 3/8". The sandbags were left for 30 minutes with no change in the deflection or any other sign of distress. After the 30 minutes was completed the fixture was inverted to simulate the download condition. The results of the tests were duplicated in the uplift condition. The deflection was 3/8" maximum and the fixture suffered no signs of distress and was to the loading. This document certifies the Tile Trac mount and accompanying tilt up support, used with BP Solar BPseries modules, withstands a 50 lb. per square foot static pressure load, this loading is equivalent to a wind speed of approximately 125 mph as defined in the 1997 Uniform Building Code. Overall the mounting unit performed as expected. If you have any questions are comments please feel free to contact this office. Sincerely, xuxfi_ Michael J. Peterson RCE erE.
