Building permits are not required to be signed by property owners unless they are personally performing their own work. If your work is being performed by someone other than yourself, you may protect yourself from possible liability if that person applies for the proper permit in his or her name. Contractors are required by law to be licensed and bonded by the State of California and to have a business license from the city or county. They are also required by law to put their license number on all permits for which they apply. We therefore. made a reasonable visual inspection, without going on 'the roof, under the building, or in the attic and "found the garage appears to .conform to the intent of housing code requirements, except for the following items which must be done or resolved: , 1) Verify by engineering calculations that .the trusses are .adequate to support the second-story floor loads for storage purpose or eliminate the second story floor and stairway. 2) Provide a design and plans by an engineer to replace or provide proper support for the portions of the trusses removed for the.stairway. 3) Provide a design and plans by an engineer for proper turss bracing. This inspection by the County'of Butte does not act as a guarantee or warranty as to the internal soundness of said structure.
