SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT Oil THE SURVEY. FOR. RARE AND 'EIJDANGERED SPECIES_
OF VASCULAR PLANTS CONDUCTED QN THE PARROT C001ORATION PROPERTY
i
DURING THE'SPRLNG OF 1982.
As indicated in tho' main report (submitted February 5,, 1382), a number of
officially recognized rare and endangered species of vascular'planfis have previously;
been reported within five: milesof this'peoperty., In addition, the habitats present,
the elevations, soil types' and climate all strongly `suggest high probabilifiy of at
least same of the species in question being present on the property.. Exhaustive
searches of some spec habitats e.g., vernal pools during peak season for
p C
virtually ail of the rare and endangered species has, howevere failed to produce
evidence of their presence at this time. One important probable explanation for
their ab e`nce lies with the fact that virtually, they entire property has beer heavily
grazed, and it is presumed that grazing pressure is at least partly responsible for
the absence of sensitive species, since even on steep slopes grazing has taken place
around each rock and tree trunk. It was not feasible within the time available to
search every square yard of property this extens'oe, and it is still possible, if not
probable, that some rare and endangered species exist in some remote cl iff or
steep slope areas inaccessible to the cattle and sheep. However, it appears un-
likely at this time that such species are present in areas which may be subjected
to development,
