My opinion of these EIRs is ftetty much the same as my opinion on moUt ETRst they fulfill the legal: requirements for an E R, 'brit as for being adequate statements of the possible effecto.,:of devotbpment on relatively undeveloped land, they are not. These are primrrily description* of tke area in question. The destrirtions of the envL-on>wental settings and habitat are so broad that they could apply to many different Areas. Apparently there has been little or ne research done to determine the dynamics of the ecological system. I fully realize that a lot of tine and finances are required to do A thorough EIR which way end up showing that minimal impact will occur. ;but I also feel, strongly that the only way to prevent serious habitat duruption and poor mAnagemOnt of our resourets is to Caste- fully, evaluate ",')e resources through long term acientific inveati- f ttio.n and mince decisions based on that' investigation. ) Thanks a$1°lin fer rend the EIRs Rose Lederer Asoodliaate Professor of Bi'lological Sciences I li 1 ihb California State University and College's t, , STATE O,F' :k+fpGk,+(—RESOURCES AGENT YkDMWfBj G U;joWN JR., Governor { DEPART`; ,T 4F',FISH AND GAMS l r , r Reg106 ,Z r Draxe Sacrir California 95818 C ab) -x+45 6370 f ) I r October28, 1975 •r r , Mr. Patrick McAchren Environmental Coordinator t Butte County Planning Department a 7 County Center Drive Orovle, California 95965 Dear Mr. Mckchren {' The California Department of Fish and Gaxie has re l i p ;n.ewed the Draftl,; Environmental Impact Deports for "Rezoning of thOVorest Ronch (-)Rezoning of Butte Creek Canyon Area'",, and Rezoning of the Stilsrh Canyon Area", We are pleased with the recommendations for proteb1' 11 1 of open space in Butte County and with the cooperation you have €r`." our Wildlife Una t.,Xanager, Mr; James Snowden. 4 We strongly recommend 06-ption of the rezoning recommended in the car aft, EiRs because "there wouYA be significant beneficial effects on wi'.,d'L fe through preservation oflt'important habitats.
