The slab was analyzed using Ram Concept software based on slab thicknesses and reinforcing as determined from the original design drawings. No original calculations were available. The focus of the evaluation is to determine if the cut top reinforcing bars have a negative effect such that slab no longer has the capacity to support the dead load and code required live load. The analysis technique using the Ram software was to run 3 models. One with reinforcing intact, one with the assumed cut top bars shortened and one with the whole section of slab removed. The results of the different analysis are presented in graphical format on the following pages. Summary and repair procedures: The removal of the top reinforcing did not add any requirement for additional top reinforcement in the software model. It was not determined whether any of the cuts affected the bottom reinforcing. The software model indicated the bottom reinforcing was a more critical element for the slab stability. These concerns were addressed by the addition of steel plates on the underside of the deepened portions of the waffle slab to transfer the forces across any possible disruption that may have occurred in the bottom reinforcing.
