They shall be permitted to be constructed of fire -retardant combustible materials where approved by the authority having jurisdiction. Exception: Listed spray booth assemblies that constructed of other materials shall be permitted. 5.3 Separation from Other Operations. Spray booth shall be separated from other opertions by a minimum distance of 915mm (3 ft) or by a partition, wall, or floor/ceiling assembly having a minimum fire resistance rating of 1 hour. Multiple connected spray booths shall not be considered as "other operations" except as provided for in Section 13.3. 5.3.1 Spray booths shall be installed so that all parts of the booth are readily accessible for cleaning. 5.3.2 A clear space of not less than 915mm (3 ft) shall be maintained on all sides and above the spray booth. This clear space shall be kept free of any storage or combustible construction. Exception No. 1: This requirement shall not prohibit locating a spray booth closer than 915mm (3 ft) to or directly againt an interior partition, wall, or floor/ceiling assembly that has a fire reistance rating of not less than 1 hour, provided the spray booth can be maintained and cleaned. Exception No. 2: This requirement shall not prohibit locating a spray booth closer than 915mm (3 ft) to an exterior wall or roof assembly provided the wall or roof is constructed of non- combustible material and provided the booth can be maintained and cleaned. 5.5 Vision and Observation Panels. As to 2013 CFC Section 2404.3.2.6 Size: The aggregate area of spray booths in a building shall not excceed the lesser of 10 percent of the area of any floor pf building or the basic area allowed for a Group H-2 occupancy without area increases, as set forth in the International Building Code. Spray areas that are equipped with ventilation distribution or baffle plates or with dry overspray collection filters shall meet the requirements of 5.6.1. through 5.6.5. 5.6.1 Distribution plates or baffles shall be constructed of noncombusible materials and shall be readily removable or accessible for cleaning on both sides. 5.6.2 Filters shall not be used when applying materials known to be highly susceptible to spontaneous heating or spontaneous ignition. 5.6.3 Supports and holder for filters shall be constructed of noncombusible materials. 5.6.4 Overspray collection filters shall be readily removable or accessible for cleaning or replacement. 5.6.5 Filters shall not be alternated used for different types of coating materials if the combination of materials might result in spontaneous heating or ignition. (See also Section 10.9.) 2011 Edition NFPA 33 Standard for Spray Application Using Flammable or Combustible Materials Chapter 6 Electrical and Other Sources of Ignition: 6.3.1.2 Class 1, Division 2 Locations. As defined in 500.5(B) (2) of NFPA 70, National Electrical Code, a Class 1, Division 2 location shall be any location where one the following conditions exists: (1) A flammable gas or volatile flammable liquid is handled, processed, or used but any flammable gas, vapor or liquid is confined within a closed container or a closed system from which it can escape only in case of accidental rupture or breakdown of the container or system or in case of abnormal operation of the equipment. (2) An ignitible concentration of flammable gas or vapor is normally prevented by positive mech- anical ventilation but might exit because of failure or abnormal operation of the ventilating equip- ment. (3) An ignitible concentration of flammable gas or vapor might occasionally be transmitted from an adjacent Class 1, Divison 1 location, unless such transmission is prevented by positive pressure ventilation from a source of clean air and effective safeguards against ventilation failure are provided. As to 2013 CFC: 2404.6.2.1 Glass panels Panels for luminaires or for observation shall be heat-treated glass, wired glass or observation shall be heat-treated glass, wired glass or hammered wire glass and shall be sealed to confine vapors, mists, residues, dusts and deposits to the flammable vapor area. Panels for luminaires shall be separated from the luminaire to prevent the suface temperature of the panel from exceeding 200'F (93'C). As to 2013 CFC: 2404.6.2.2 Exterior luminaires. Luminaires attached to walls or ceilings of a flammable vapor area, but outside of any classified area and separated from the flammable vapor areas by vapor -tight glass panels, shall be suitable for use in ordinary hazard locations, Such luminaires shall be seviced from outside the flammable vapor areas. As to 2013 CFC: 2404.6.2.3 Integral luminaires. Luminaires that are an integral part of the walls or ceiling of flammable vapor area are allowed to be separated from the flammable vapor area by glass panels that are anintegral part of the luminaire. Such luminaires shall be listed for use in Class 1, Division 2 or Class II, Division 2 locations, whichever is applicable, and also shall be suitable for accumulations of deposits of combustible residues. Such luminaires are allowed to be serviced from inside the flammable vapor area. As to 2013 CMC: 505.1 General A mechanical ventilation or exhaust system shall be installed to control, capture, and remove emissions generated from product use or handling where required in accordance with the building code or fire code and where such emissions result in a hazard to life or prop.,rty. The design of the system shall be such that the emissions are confined to the area in which they are generated by air currents, hoods, or enclosures and shall be exhausted by a duct system to a safe location or treated by removing contaminants. Ducts conveying explosives or flammable vapor, fumes, or dust shall extend driectly to the exterior of the building without entering other spaces and shall not extend into or through ducts and plenums. Exception: Ducts conveying vapor or fumes having flammable consitituents less than 25 percent of their lower flammability Limit (LFL) shall be permitted to pass through other spaces. As to 2013 CFC: 2404.7.6 Termination point. The termination point for exhaust ducts discharging to the atmosphere shall not be less than the following distances: 1. Ducts conveying explosive or flammable vapors fumes or dusts: 30 feet from the lot line; 10 feet from openings into the buildiatng; 6 feet from exterior walls and roofs; 30 feet from combustible walls or openings into the building thare in the direction of the exhaust discharge; 10 feet above adjoining grade. 2. Spray areas that are equipped with ventilation distribution or baffle plates or with dry overspray collection filters shall meet the requirements of 5.6.1. through 5.6.5. 5.6.1 Distribution plates or baffles shall be constructed of noncombusible materials and shall be readily removable or accessible for cleaning on both sides. 5.6.2 Filters shall not be used when applying materials known to be highly susceptible to spontaneous heating or spontaneous ignition. 5.6.3 Supports and holder for filters shall be constructed of noncombusible materials. 5.6.4 Overspray collection filters shall be readily removable or accessible for cleaning or replacement. 5.6.5 Filters shall not be alternated used for different types of coating materials if the combination of materials might result in spontaneous heating or ignition. (See also Section 10.9.) 2011 Edition NFPA 33 Standard for Spray Application Using Flammable or Combustible Materials Chapter 6 Electrical and Other Sources of Ignition: 6.3.1.2 Class 1, Division 2 Locations. As to 2013 CFC: 2404.6.2.1 Glass panels Panels for luminaires or for observation shall be heat-treated glass, wired glass or observation shall be heat-treated glass, wired glass or hammered wire glass and shall be sealed to confine vapors, mists, residues, dusts and deposits to the flammable vapor area. Panels for luminaires shall be separated from the luminaire to prevent the suface temperature of the panel from exceeding 200'F (93'C). As to 2013 CFC: 2404.6.2.2 Exterior luminaires. Luminaires attached to walls or ceilings of a flammable vapor area, but outside of any classified area and separated from the flammable vapor areas by vapor -tight glass panels, shall be suitable for use in ordinary hazard locations, Such luminaires shall be seviced from outside the flammable vapor areas. As to 2013 CFC: 2404.6.2.3 Integral luminaires. Luminaires that are an integral part of the walls or ceiling of flammable vapor area are allowed to be separated from the flammable vapor area by glass panels that are anintegral part of the luminaire. Such luminaires shall be listed for use in Class 1, Division 2 or Class II, Division 2 locations, whichever is applicable, and also shall be suitable for accumulations of deposits of combustible residues. Such luminaires are allowed to be serviced from inside the flammable vapor area. As to 2013 CMC: 505.1 General A mechanical ventilation or exhaust system shall be installed to control, capture, and remove emissions generated from product use or handling where required in accordance with the building code or fire code and where such emissions result in a hazard to life or prop.,rty. The design of the system shall be such that the emissions are confined to the area in which they are generated by air currents, hoods, or enclosures and shall be exhausted by a duct system to a safe location or treated by removing contaminants. Ducts conveying explosives or flammable vapor, fumes, or dust shall extend driectly to the exterior of the building without entering other spaces and shall not extend into or through ducts and plenums.
