LANDSCAPE GRADING
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 WORK INCLUDED
Section 02260
Landscape Grading
A. Provide all labor, materials services and equipment indicated on Drawings and/or
herein specified to complete all Landscape Grading Work.
B. Landscape grading shall consist of establishing finish grade to conform to the
contours, grades, line and shapes of rough grades established on Engineer's plans.
C. Land alteration of existing topographic conditions to conform to the contours, grades,
lines and shapes indicated per plan.
D. Contractor shall furnish,.place and settle all required backfill material to conform to
the contours,` grades, lines and shapes as indicated on the Drawings, and engineer's
plans
1.02 RELATED WORK
1. SECTION 02905 - LANDSCAPE INSTALLATION
1.03 DEFINITIONS
A. Finish rade: Finish grade: Finish grade shall mean the establishment of grades to
.04 feet plus or minus.
& Grading intent: Spot elevations (grades) and contours are indicated based on the best
available data. Architect's Drawings are referenced to provide site grading data. The
intent is to maintain constant slopes between spot elevations. If a spot elevation is
determined to be in error, or the difference in elevation between points change contact
the Owner immediately for field adjustments of.spot elevations.
1.04 JOB CONDITIONS
A. Visit the project site and examine the existing conditions under which the Work is to
be performed. Note all conditions, as to character and extent of Work involved. This
may include pot holing to determine depth of bedrock
1.05 EXISTING UTILITIES
A. Contractor is responsible to contact U.S.A (800-642-2444) to stake and mark the
location of all existing utilities before commencing Work. Pothole as required to
determine and verify location and depth.

B. Retain and protect 'in operating condition all active utilities traversing the site
designated to remain.
1.06 PROTECTION OF EXISTING CONDITIONS and ADJACENT PROPERTIES
A. Use all means necessary to protect existing conditions designated to remain, newly
constructed conditions and adjacent properties. Avoid any encroachment on adjacent
properties.
B. Prevent damage to existing benchmarks, pavement, and utility lines. In the event of
damage or loss immediately make all repairs and replacements required to the
Owner's approval at no additional cost to the Owner.
1.07 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Finish grade shall conform to contours, grades,'lines and shapes, as indicated on
Architect's Drawings, with uniform slopes between finish grades or between finish
grades and existing grades.
B. Establish finish landscape grades in a continuous, uniform line, resulting in a uniform
surface with no ridges, birdbaths or low spots.
C. Finish landscape grade tolerance shall be .04 feet plus or minus of final grades
indicated on Drawings.
D. Slope grade away from buildings a minimum of two (2) percent in five (5) feet
horizontal.distance unless otherwise indicated on Drawings, or Architect's plans.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01 ONSITE MATERIAL
A. Existing onsite excavated surplus material may be acceptable. fill if approved by the
Owner or Owner's representative.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
GENERAL
3.01 A. , Conduct work in an orderly manner. Dirt shall not be permitted to accumulate on
streets or sidewalks nor to be washed into storm drains.
B. Use all means required to prevent the erosion of freshly graded areas during
construction and until such a time as proposed hard surfaces and landscaping have
been constructed.

3.03 FINISH LANDSCAPE'GRADING
A. Finish grade shall conform, after settling, to shapes, spot elevations and contours as
indicated on Construction Drawings, with uniform levels or slopes between finish
elevations or between finish elevations and existing elevations.
B. Fine grade all planting areas to a smooth, loose and uniform surface. Remove all
extraneous matter 1" or larger in size and dispose of off site to create a smooth
surface. Finish grades shall slope to drain, without water pockets or irregularities
(humps or hollows). Grades shall be or uniform slope between points of fixed
elevation establishing vertical curves or roundings at abrupt changes in slope.
C. Basalt Chip Rock and Bark Mulch areas shall be graded three and one-half (3-1/2)
inches below adjacent paved areas, sidewalks, valve boxes, headers, drains, etc. in
order to receive three (3) inch depth of mulch or rock, establishing final grade one-
half (1/2) inches below these surfaces.

SECTION 02515
SITE CONCRETE
PART1-GENERAL
1.01 WORK INCLUDED
Furnish all labor, materials and equipment required for the reinforcement, formwork and
the construction of cast -in-place concrete sidewalks, including all other work required to
produce a finished project in accordance with the Drawings and as specified herein.
1.02 RELATED WORK

1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Comply with ASTM A-615 "Standard Specifications for Deformed and Plain Billet -
Steel Bars for Concrete Reinforcement," and "Manual of Standard Practice for
Detailing Reinforced Concrete Structures," publication ACI 315-65 of the American
Concrete Institute.
B. Comply with all pertinent recommendations contained in American Concrete Institute
(ACI), "Recommended Practice of Concrete Formwork, ACI -347."
C. Construct forms to sizes, shapes, lines and dimensions indicated on Drawings, and to
obtain accurate alignment, location, grades, level and plumb' work in finished
structures. Provide for openings, offsets, sinkages, keyways, recesses, reglets,
chamfers, blocking, screeds, bulkheads, anchorages and inserts, and other features
required in work. Use selected materials to obtain required finish. Solidly butt joints
and provide back-up at joints to prevent leakage of cement paste.
D. Provide complete forms of such strength and construction as to prevent any spread,
shifting, or settling when concrete is deposited, and tight enough to avoid any leakage
or washing out of cement mortar.
1.04 JOB CONDITIONS
A. Temperature: All concrete design mixes and methods of protecting concrete shall be
resubmitted to the Landscape Architect for review when the following temperatures
are anticipated:
1. The temperature is below 40° F, or when conditions indicate that the temperature
will fall below 40° F within seventy-two (72) hours.

2. The placing temperature of the concrete is, or anticipated to be, above 80° F.
1.05 COORDINATION
A. Secure all pipe sleeves, anchors and bolts, including those for angle frames, inserts,
ties and other materials in connection with concrete construction, in position before
concrete is placed.
B. Obtain information and instructions from other Trades and suppliers in ample time to
schedule and coordinate the installation of items furnished by them to be embedded in
concrete so provisions for their work can be made without delaying the project.
C. Make cutting and/or patching made necessary by failure or delay in complying with
these requirements at no cost to the Owner.
1.06 FORM CONSTRUCTION TOLERANCES
A. Set form to required grades and lines, rigidly braced and secured. Install sufficient
quantity of forms to allow continuous progress of work so that forms can remain in
place at least twenty-four (24) hours after concrete placement.
B. Check completed formwork for grade and alignment to following tolerances:
1. Top of forms not more than one-eighth (1/8) inch in ten (10) feet vertical
elevation.
2. Vertical face on longitudinal axis not more than one-fourth (1/4) inch in ten (10)
feet horizontal width.
1.07 SMOOTHNESS TOLERANCE
A. Cement finish surfaces shall be of such smoothness and evenness that they shall
contact the entire length of a 10 -foot straight edge laid in any direction, with an
allowable tolerance of 1/8 inch. Any operations necessary to achieve this result
should be performed by the Contractor, at no additional cost to the City.
B. No patching will be permitted to correct defective work; defective sections shall be
removed and replaced. No extensions of time will be allowed for correcting
defective work.
1.08 INSPECTIONS
A. Inspections will be required. Contractor shall call for inspection a minimum of 48
hours (two working days) prior to need.
B. The contractor shall -call for inspection during specific phases of construction. They
shall include the following, each prior to pour:

C. Contractor shall notify the Landscape Architect 48 hours prior to each concrete pour.
D. Any work covered prior to inspection shall be opened to view, by the Contractor at his
expense.
1.09 TESTING
All testing shall be as required by the Standard Specifications' and these Contract
Documents.
1.10 MOCK-UPS
A. Prior to construction, provide (1) 4 -foot x 4 -foot x 4 -inch sample of each paving type
specified on Drawings.
B. Create Test Pour or Cast of concrete walls and column finished as specified on
Drawings.
C. Ensure that each mock-up contains joint types specified on project, i.e. construction,
contraction, and isolation.
D. Locate mock-ups in a conveniently accessible and protected place. At contractor's
cost, additional mock-ups shall be provided as needed until approved. Approved
mock-ups will be standard for future installation review.
E. Remove mock-ups from site upon completion of Work and approval by Owner's
Authorized Representative.
1.11 SUBMITTALS
A. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's data on manufactured products for approval.
B. Shop drawings: indicate formwork, dimensions, reinforcement, accessories and
control and expansion joint layout.
C. Mix design: Submit each class of concrete to approved inspection and testing firm
and the City for review prior to commencement of concrete operations.
D. Project Record Documents: Accurately record actual locations of embedded utilities
and components that will be concealed from view upon completion of concrete work.
PART 2 -PRODUCTS
2.01 CONCRETE REINFORCEMENT

A. Reinforcing Bars: Deformed Billet Steel Bars, ASTM A-615, Grade 40 or Grade 60.
B. Welded Wire Mesh: ASTM A-186 plain type and uncoated finish.

C. Tie Wires: Black annealed, ASTM A-82, minimum 16 gauge.
'D. Chains, Bolsters, Bar supports, Spacers: Sized and shaped for strength and support of
reinforcement during installation and placement of concrete.
E. Stirrup Steel: ASTM A-82. .
F. Smooth dowel steel bars'for construction joints: ASTM A-29, Grade 60.
1. Where indicated, provide dowel sleeve at one end of greased dowel to permit
longitudinal movement of dowel within concrete section.
2. Provide for movement which equals joint width plus one-half (1/2) inch.
2.02. CONCRETE FORM MATERIALS
A. Slabs, Walks, Walls, Columns and Concrete edges: Steel, wood or other suitable
material of size and strength to resist movement during concrete placement and to
retain horizontal and vertical alignment until removal. Use straight ,forms, free of
distortion and defects.
L Use flexible spring steel forms or laminated boards to form radius bends and foam
-�' templates for detailed edges as required.
2. Coat forms with a non -staining form release agent that will not discolor or deface
surface of concrete.
B. Forms for Exposed Finish Concrete:'Unles's otherwise shown, construct formwork for
exposed concrete surfaces with plywood, to provide continuous, straight, smooth, -
exposed surfaces. Provide plywood in largest practicable sizes to minimize number of
joints. Provide form material with sufficient thickness to withstand pressure of newly -
placed concrete without bow or deflection. Provide solid backing and form supports
to insure stability of forms. On any length of wall the difference in form piece size
shall not be greater than 25% plus or minus the dimension of the smallest piece and in
no case smaller than two (2) inches in width.
1. Use five (5) ply exterior plywood complying with U.S. Product Standard PS 1-66,
" B -B (Concrete Form) Plywood," Class 1, Exterior Grade or better, with each _
piece bearing legible inspection trademark. .
2. Use form material in largest practicable sizes to minimize number of form joints.
Arrange form joints orderly and symmetrically with minimum number of joints.

C.
Forms for Unexposed Finish Concrete: Form concrete surfaces which will be
unexposed with plywood, lumber, metal or other acceptable material. Provide lumber
•
dressed on at least two (2) edges and on one side for tight fit that is fir or pine, No. 2
common or better.

Circular Concrete Footings or Columns: All round concrete footings or columns, size
- _
as indicated on Drawings, shall be formed with seamless "SONOTUBE" fiber forms '
as manufactured by Sonoco Products Company of Hartsville, South Carolina.
E.
Forms for Curved Exposed Surfaces: Forms shall be built up with•hand' sawn two (2) ,
- '
inch stringers, sized and carefully fitted to desired form, with segmental tacking.
Exposed face surfaces shall be sheet metal, oil tempered hardboard, or one-quarter
(1/4) inch waterproof plywood facing.
F.
Form Ties: Factory-fabricated,'adjustable-length, removable or,snap-off metal form
ties (break back cone ties), designed to prevent form deflection, and. to prevent
spalling concrete surfaces upon removal. All form -ties to be used on unexposed
concrete surfaces.

Chamfer :Exposed Corners and Edges: Chamfer exposed corners and edges as .
indicated on Drawings using wood chamfer strips fabricated to produce uniform.
smooth lines and tight edge joints.
H.
Radius Exposed Corners: Apply concrete .radius tooled edges to exposed concrete
corners as dimensioned and sized on Drawings.
I.
Rough Hardware: Pipe, conduit, bolts,.anchors, etc., as,indicated on Drawings or
needed shall be furnished and set.
J.
Chamfer Horizontal Reveal: Chamfer concrete wall horizontal reveals, as indicated on
Drawings, using wood chamfer strips fabricated to produce uniform smooth lines and
tight edge joints.
2.03 CONCRETE'ACCESSORIES
A.
Bonding Agent: ASTM C 1059, Type II acrylic non-redispersable type.

Epoxy Bonding System: ASTM C 881, type as required by project conditions. +

Vapor Retarder: 6 mil'(0.5 mm) thick clear polyethylene film, type recommended for. • I

grade application.
D.
Chemical Hardener: Fluosilicate solution designed for densification of cured concrete
slabs. -

Non -Shrink Grout ASTM C 1107; premixed compound consisting' of non-metallic
aggregate, cement, water reducing and plasticizing agents.
I. Minimum Compressive Strength at 48 Hours: 2,400 psi (17-MPa).

F. Moisture -Retaining Cover: ASTM C 171; white burlap -polyethylene sheet. '
• G. Liquid Curing Compound: ASTM C 309, Type 1, clear or translucent with guarantee
not to leave surface residue.
2.04 JOINT DEVICES AND MATERIALS
A. Expansion Joint Filler: Nonextruding, resilient asphalt impregnated fiberboard of felt,
1/4 inch thick and full depth of concrete less 1/2 inch.
B. Construction Joint Devices: Integral extruded plastic; 1/4 inch thick, formed to tongue
and groove profile, with removable top strip exposing sealant trough, knockout holes
spaced at 6 inches, ribbed steel spikes with tongue to ft top screed edge.
C. Joint Cap: Plastic joint size to match expansion joint size by Sealtight or approved
equal
D. Elastomeric Sealant: Joint sealer color to match concrete.
E. See Section 02764 Pavement Joint Sealers for additional specifications.
2.05 CONCRETE
A. Concrete Mix:
- I . Mix concrete in accordance with ASTM C-94 and with aggregates complying with
` ASTM C-33 and Portland Cement ASTM C-150, Type II.
2. All concrete mixes shall be designed by a testing laboratory approved by the City's
Representative or Landscape Architect. All mixes shall conform to applicable
building code requirements listed herein or on the Drawings. All mix designs shall
be submitted to the Landscape Architect for approval before being used. Mix
design shall show proportions of cement, fine and coarse aggregate, and water and
graduation of combined aggregates. Calcium' chloride shall not be added at any
mix.
• 3. Alteration of approved concrete mixes is not acceptable, installation of concrete
other than approved mixes shall be replaced at the expense of the contractor.

2.06 MIXING
A. On Project Site: Mix in drum type batch mixer, complying with ASTM C 685. Mix
each batch not less than 1-1/2 minutes and not more than 5 minutes.
B. Transit Mixers: Comply with ASTM C 94/C 94M.
2.07 ADMIXTURES
A. Chemical admixtures shall conform to the requirements, of Section 90-4.04 through.
90-4.07 of the State Standard Specifications.

2.08 PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE
Shall conform to the provisions in Standard Specifications Section 90 "Portland
Cement".
2.10 EXPANSION JOINTS
Shall be as shown on plans and details. Submit samples of preformed material and sealant
for approval by the County.
2.11 CONCRETE CURING COMPOUND
Plast -A -Cure Heavy Duty Curing Compound or Approved Equal: Concrete curing
compound shall be a white -pigmented curing compound conforming to the requirements
of Section 90-7.01 B, "Curing Compound Method" of the State Standard Specifications
and shall be a product conforming to ASTM C 309, Type 2, Class B.
2.12 SCORE JOINT
Shall be as shown on the drawings and details, or as called for in the City of Oroville,
Department of Public Works Standard Drawings.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01: GENERAL
A. All work shall conform to the requirements of City of Oroville, Department of
Public Works Standard Drawings unless noted otherwise on the plans.

B. All work shall conform to the foundation investigation report. Slab thicknesses,
reinforcement, compaction requirements, and base recommendations shall take
precedence over details and plan callouts.
C. All concrete slabs shall slope to drain. Depressions in the slab surface that hold
water ("bird baths") will not be acceptable.
D. Install concrete and cement finish work true to lines, dimensions and levels.
Finishing to conform to the City of Oroville Standard Drawings unless noted
otherwise on plans.
E. Protect all finished concrete from graffiti. Contractor shall be responsible for
providing concrete watchmen. A graffiti finish will not be acceptable.
F. Remove and replace defective concrete or cement work with new materials.
Permission to patch any defective area shall not be a waiver of the City's right to
require complete removal of defective work if patching does not restore quality
and appearance of work.
G. Verify lines, levels, and dimensions before proceeding with work of this section.
H. No advertising impression, stamp, or mark of any description will be permitted on
surface of concrete or cement finish.
3.02 CONCRETE REINFORCEMENT PLACEMENT
A. Fabricate reinforcement in accordance with ACI -315, providing a minimum concrete
cover of two (2) inches.
B. Place all reinforcement in the exact position shown on the Drawings and secure in
position during the placing and compacting of concrete. Wire bars together with
No. 16 gauge wire with ties at all intersections except where spacing is less than twelve
(12) inches in each direction, in which case tie alternate intersections.
C. Overlap welded wire mesh one square plus six (6) inches to maintain a uniform
strength, and securely fasten at the ends, edges and support to maintain clearances:
D. Place all sleeves, inserts, anchors and embedded items required for adjoining work or
for its support prior to concreting. Fill voids in embedded items temporarily with
readily removable material to prevent entry of concrete.
E. Give all contractors and subcontractors whose work is related to concrete or supported
by it, ample notice and opportunity to introduce and/or furnish embedded items before
concrete placement.
3.03 CONCRETE FORMWORK CONSTRUCTION

A. Construct support, brace and maintain formwork to support vertical and lateral loads
that might be applied until such loads can be supported by concrete.
B. Contractor assumes full responsibility in the removal of forms. The length of time
forms must remain in place depends on the rate of time required for concrete to obtain
a proper strength. Remove forms after the concrete is sufficiently hard to prevent
damage to concrete.
C. Reuse of Forms:
1. Do not reuse forms if there is any evidence of surface wear or defect which would
impair quality of surface.
2. Thoroughly clean and properly coat forms before reuse.
D. Earth Forms
Hand trim sides and bottom of earth forms. Remove loose soil prior to placing
concrete
3.04 APPLICATION - FORM RELEASE AGENT
A. Apply form release agent on formwork in accordance with manufacturer's
recommendations.
B. Do not apply form release agent where concrete surfaces will receive special finishes
or applied coverings that are affected by agent. Soak inside surfaces of untreated
forms with clean water. Keep surfaces coated prior to placement of concrete.
3.05 INSERTS, EMBEDDED PARTS, AND OPENINGS
A. Provide formed openings where required for items to be embedded in or passing
through concrete work.
B. Locate and secure in place items that will be cast directly into concrete.
C. Coordinate with work of other sections in forming and placing openings, slots, inlets,
recesses, sleeves, bolts, anchors, other inserts, and components of other work.
D. Install accessories in accordance with manufacturer's instructions, so they are
straight, level, and plumb. Ensure items are not disturbed during concrete. placement
3.06 FORM REMOVAL
Do not remove forms or bracing until concrete has gained sufficient strength to'carry its
own weight and imposed loads.

Site Concrete
I.
Observe formwork continuously while concrete is being placed to see that there
are no deviations from desired elevation, alignment, plumbness or camber.
2.
If during construction any weakness develops and falsework shows undue
settlement or discoloration, stop work, remove affected construction if permanently
damaged, and strengthen falsework.
3.
Verify that forms are clean and free of rust before,applying release agent.
3.07 CONCRETE PLACEMENT AND FINISHES
A. Placing
Concrete:
I.
Place concrete in accordance with ACI -304 and Section 2605 of the Uniform
Building Code. Immediately after depositing, compact concrete thoroughly by
mechanical vibration. No vibrating of form is allowed. Mixing shall be
continuous, with no interruptions from the time the truck is filled until the time it is
emptied. Concrete shall be placed within one hour of the time water is first added.
2.
insure anchors, seats, plates, and other items to be cast into concrete are placed,
held securely and will not cause hardship in placing concrete.
3.
insure reinforcement, inserts; embedded parts, etc. are not disturbed during
concrete placement.
4.
Pour concrete continuously between predetermined construction and control joints.
Do not. break or interrupt successive pours such that cold joints occur, unless
otherwise indicated on the Drawings.
5.
Lines and Grades: Elevations requiring accurate placement shall be set by a
competent instrument man, using a professional type instrument. '
3.
For all concrete placed on soil, the subgrade shall be wet and compacted prior to .
placing.
-4.
Before placing concrete 'mixing, conveying and -finishing equipment, forms and
reinforcing shall be well -cleaned. Wet form before placing concrete, unless oiled
forms are used.
5.
Notify Landscape Architect at least 48, hours prior to commencement of concrete
-
placement operations.
6.
Repair vapor retarder damaged during placement of concrete; reinforcing. Repair
'
with vapor retarder material; lap over damaged areas minimum 6 inches (150 mm)
and seal watertight.
7.
Install joint devices in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

8. Install construction joint devices in coordination with concrete slab pattern
placement sequence. Set top to required elevations. Secure to resist movement by
wet concrete.
9. Maintain records of concrete placement. Record date, location, quantity, air
temperature, and test samples taken.
10. Place concrete continuously' between predetermined expansion, control, and
construction joints.

B. Concrete Finishing
1. Exterior Slabs and Sidewalks:
a. Sidewalks —Medium Broom Finish per plan
b. All exterior slabs, sidewalks and top of walls to have non -slip uniform surface
per plan.
c. After concrete ihas been placed, consolidate strike off and screed uniformly to
the required grades. Float concrete to a uniform surface, then steel trowel
lightly to compact surface. Finish exterior slabs and sidewalks as detailed on
Drawings. Exterior slabs and sidewalks shall be formed with slopes as
indicated, as directed or as necessary to insure proper drainage. Exterior slabs ,
and sidewalks adjacent to buildings shall drain away from buildings.
3.04 CURING
A. Beginning immediately after placement, .protect concrete from premature drying,
from excessively hot or cold temperatures, and from mechanical injury. Maintain
concrete with minimal moisture loss at relatively constant temperature for . a
period necessary for hydration of cement and hardening of concrete.
Normal concrete: Not less than 7 days
2. Hairline fissures and cracks developed in first ninety (90) days shall result in ,
replacement of concrete.
B. Comply with requirements of ACI 308 and ASTM C171. Immediately after
placement protect concrete from premature drying, excessively hot or cold
temperatures, and mechanical injury. Cover with white burl ays-polyestyIene
sheet.
C. Initial curing shall be moist curing or moisture cover wring and shall continue for
at least 188 emulative hours (not necessarily consecutive), during which the
concrete has been exposed to air temperatures above 50 degrees F. Avoid rapid
drying at the end of the curing period.

D. Use water that is free of impurities that could etch or discolor concrete surfaces.
E. Do not use liquid membrane curing compounds on surfaces which are to be
covered with a coating material applied directly to the concrete or with a covering
material bonded to the concrete, such as other concrete, liquid floor hardener,
waterproofing, damp-proof flooring, painting, and other coatings and finish
materials, unless otherwise acceptable to the Inspector.
F. Formed Surfaces: Cure by moist curing with forms in place for full curing period.
Surfaces Not in Contact with Forms:
1. Start initial curing as soon as free water has disappeared and before surface is
dry. Keep continuously moist for not less than three days by water ponding,
water -saturated sand, water -fog spray, or saturated burlap.
2. Begin final curing after initial curing but before surface is dry.
a. Moisture -retaining cover. Seal in place with waterproof tape or adhesive.
b. Curing compound: Apply in two coats at right angles, using application
rate recommended by manufacturer.
3.05 WATERPROOF BARRIER
Place, protect and repair waterproof barrier according to manufacturer's written

3.06 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. Provide free access to concrete operations at , project site and cooperate with
appointed firm.
B. Tests of concrete and concrete materials may be performed at any time to ensure
conformance with specified requirements.
C. Compressive Strength Tests: ASTM C 39/C 39M. For each test, mold and cure three
concrete test cylinders. Obtain test samples for every 100 cu yd (76 cu m) or less of
each class of concrete placed.
D. Perform one slump test for each set of test cylinders taken, following procedures of
ASTM C 143/C 143M.
3.07 DEFECTIVE CONCRETE
A. Test Results: The testing agency shall report test results in writing to the City and
Contractor within 24 hours of test.

3.2 PREPARATION
A. Surface Cleaning of Joints: Clean out joints immediately before installing joint
sealants to comply with joint -sealant manufacturer's written instructions.
B. Joint Priming: Prime joint substrates where indicated or where recommended in
writing by joint -sealant manufacturer, based on preconstruction joint -sealant -
substrate tests or prior experience. Apply primer to comply with joint -sealant
manufacturer's written instructions. Confine primers to areas of joint -sealant bond;
do not allow spillage or migration onto adjoining surfaces.
3.3 INSTALLATION OF JOINT SEALANTS
A. General: Comply with joint -sealant manufacturer's written installation instructions
for products and applications indicated, unless more stringent requirements apply.
B. Sealant Installation Standard: Comply with recommendations in ASTM C 1 193 for
use . of joint sealants as applicable to materials, applications, and conditions
indicated.
C. Install backer materials of type indicated to support sealants during application and
at position required to produce cross-sectional shapes and depths of installed
sealants relative to joint widths that allow optimum sealant movement capability.
1. Do not leave gaps between ends of backer materials.
2. Do not stretch, twist, puncture, or tear backer materials.
3. Remove absorbent backer materials that have become wet before sealant
application and replace them with dry materials.
D. Install sealants using proven techniques that comply with the following and at the
same time backings are installed:
1. Place sealants so they directly contact and fully wet joint substrates.
2. Completely fill recesses provided for each joint configuration.
3. Produce uniform, cross-sectional shapes and depths relative to joint widths that
allow optimum sealant movement capability.
E. Tooling of Nonsag Sealants: Immediately after sealant application and before
skinning or curing begins, tool sealants according to requirements specified below
to form smooth, uniform beads of configuration indicated; to eliminate air pockets;
and to ensure contact and adhesion of sealant with sides of joint.
1. Remove excess sealants from surfaces adjacent to joint.
2. Use tooling agents that are approved in writing by joint -sealant manufacturer
and that do not discolor sealants or adjacent surfaces.

A. Prepare previously placed concrete by cleaning and removing laitance and
exposing aggregates and applying bonding agent. Apply bonding agent in
accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
B. At locations where new concrete is doweled to existing work, drill holes in
existing concrete, and grout in dowels with a non -shrink cementitious grout.

3.03 PLACING CONCRETE
A. Place concrete in accordance with ACT 301, ACI -614 and CBC Section 1905.10.
B. Hot Weather Placement: ACI 305 and CBC Section 1905.13.
C. Cold Weather Placement: ACT 306 and CBC Section 1905.12.
D. Ensure reinforcement, inserts, embedded parts, formed joints are not disturbed
during concrete placement.
E. Maintain concrete cover around reinforcing as required by CBC Section 1907.
F. Place concrete continuously between predetermined construction and control
joints. Do not break or interrupt successive pours so that cold joints occur.
G. Place floor slabs on fill as indicated on Drawings.
H. Formed Construction (Control) Joints at 20'-0" on center maximum each way
unless otherwise noted on Drawings. Saw -cut joints will not be acceptable.
I. Separate exterior slabs on fill from vertical surfaces with joint filler. Extend joint
filler from bottom of slab to within 1/2 inch of finished slab surface.
J. Excessive honeycomb or embedded debris in concrete is not acceptable. Notify
Architect/Engineer upon discovery.
K. Preparation for placement shall be in accordance with ACI -318 and CBC Section
1905, as specified herein. Concrete shall not be placed until reinforcement, pipes,
conduits, or other set-in items have been inspected and approved by the
Architect. Concrete shall not be placed on soft or water soaked ground, in water,
on frozen ground or surfaces, which are covered by frost. Wood forms shall be
thoroughly wetted before concrete is placed.
L. Use chutes in conveying and depositing concrete only at the discretion of the
Architect, at such an inclination as will permit the flow of concrete of consistency
required and where necessary, in order to prevent separation, provide chutes with
baffle boards or a revised section at the outlet.
M. Use of additional water in mixing the concrete to promote free flow in chutes of
low inclination or any other reason will not be allowed.
M. Concrete shall be deposited in place not more than 1-1/2 hours from the time
water is added to the mix; lessor times shall be required during hot weather.
O. Maximum height of fall of concrete shall be 4'-0", except when tremies, tubes or
elephant trunks are used. Concrete mix with a temperature above 80 degrees F

P. In case of rain or inclement weather, freshly poured concrete shall be protected

3.04 FINISHING
A. Floor Flatness/Levelness Tolerances:
1. Floor flatness defines the maximum floor curvature allowed over 24 -inches.

1.06 ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
A. Maintain materials and surrounding air temperature to minimum 50 degrees F
prior to, during, and 48 hours after completion of masonry work.
1.07 TESTING
A. Mortar and Grout Tests: At the beginning of all masonry work, at least one test
sample of the mortar and grout shall be taken on three successive working days
and at least at one week intervals thereafter. The samples shall be continuously
stored in moist air until tested. They shall meet the minimum strength requirement
given for mortar and grout respectively. Additional samples shall be taken
whenever any change in materials or job conditions occur, or whenever in the
judgment of the Contract Officer such tests are necessary to determine the quality
of the material.
B. Tests specimens for mortar and grout shall be made as set forth in UBC Standard
No. 21-16. In making the mortar test specimens the mortar shall be taken from
the unit soon after spreading. After molding, the molds shall be carefully
protected by a covering, which shall be kept damp for at least 24 hours, after
which the specimens shall be stored and tested as required for concrete cylinders.
C. In making grout test specimens, the masonry unit molds shall be broken away
after the grout has taken its set, but before it has hardened. If an absorbent paper
liner is used the mold may be left in place until the specimen has hardened. The
prisms shall be stored as required for concrete cylinders. They shall be tested in
the vertical position.

2.05 MORTAR MIXING
A. Thoroughly mix mortar ingredients in quantities needed for immediate use in
accordance with ASTM C270.
B. Do not use anti -freeze compounds to lower the freezing point of mortar or grout.
C. If water is lost by evaporation, retemper within two hours of mixing. Do not
retemper mortar after two hours of mixing.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 INSTALLATION
A. After inspection of concrete grout spaces by Architect/Engineer, plug cleanout
holes with masonry units. Brace against wet grout pressure.
B. Install mortar and grout in accordance with 04340.
C. Work grout into cores and cavities to eliminate voids.

3.02 PREPARATION
A. Direct and coordinate placement of metal anchors supplied to other Sections.
B. Provide temporary bracing during installation of masonry work. Maintain in
place until building structure provides permanent bracing.
3.03 COURSING
A. Establish lines, levels, and coursing indicated. Protect from displacement.
B. Maintain masonry courses to uniform dimension. Form vertical and horizontal
joints of uniform thickness.
C. Lay concrete masonry units in running bond. Course one unit and one mortar
joint to equal 8 inches. Form concave mortar joints.
3.04 PLACING AND BONDING
A. Lay solid masonry units in full bed of mortar, with full head joints, uniformly
jointed with other work.
B. Lay hollow masonry units with face shell bedding on head and bed joints.
C. Buttering corners of joints or excessive furrowing of mortar joints are not
permitted.
D. Remove excess mortar as Work progresses.
E. Interlock intersections and external corners.
R Do not shift or tap masonry units after mortar has achieved initial set. Where
adjustment must be made, remove mortar and replace.
G. Perform jobsite cutting of masonry units with proper tools to provide straight,
clean, unchipped edges. Prevent broken masonry unit corners or edges.

B. Place mortar in masonry unit bed joints back 1/4 inch from edge of unit grout
spaces, bevel back and upward. Permit mortar to cure adequately before placing
grout (24 hour minimum).
C. Reinforce masonry unit cores with reinforcement bars and grout as indicated on
drawings.
D. Retain vertical reinforcement in position at top and bottom of cells and at
intervals not exceeding 192 bar diameters. Splice reinforcement in accordance
with CBC Section 2107A.
E. Vertical cells shall have vertical alignment sufficient to maintain a clear,
unobstructed, continuous vertical cell measuring not less than 2 inches by 3
inches. Mortar projections exceeding 1/4" are not allowed.
F. When grouting is stopped for more than one hour, terminate grout 1-1/2 inch
below top of upper masonry unit to form a positive key for subsequent grout
placement:
G. Grouting: Place grout in lifts not to exceed four feet in height. Place and
mechanically vibrate for grout consolidation. Clean -outs are required when grout
pour exceeds five feet in height. Grout pours shall be reconsolidated by
mechanical vibrator.
3.07 TOLERANCES
A. Maximum Variation From Unit to Adjacent Unit: 1/16 inch
B: Maximum Variation From Plane of Wall: 1/4 inch in 10 feet and 1/2 inch in 20
feet or more.
C. Maximum Variation -From Plumb: 1/4 inch per story non -cumulative; 1/2 inch in
two stories or more.
D. Maximum Variation From Level Coursing: 1/8 inch in 3 feet and 1/4 inch in 10
feet; 1/2 inch in 30 feet.

1.2 SUMMARY
A. Section includes the following applications of stone masonry:

1.3 SUBMITTALS
A. Product Data: For each type of product indicated.
1. For stone varieties proposed for use on Project, include test data indicating
compliance with physical properties specified.
B. Samples for Initial Selection: For colored mortar and other items involving color
selection.

1. For each stone type indicated. Include at least five samples in each set for each
type of stone, exhibiting extremes of the full range of color and other visual i
characteristics expected in completed Work. Samples will establish the standard

1.4, QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Installer Qualifications: A qualified installer who employs experienced
stonemasons and stone fitters.
B. Source Limitations for Stone: Obtain each variety of stone, regardless of finish,
from one quarry, with resources to provide materials of consistent quality in
appearance and physical properties.
C. Source Limitations for Mortar Materials: Obtain mortar ingredients of a uniform
quality, including color for exposed masonry, from single manufacturer for each
cementitious component and from single source or producer for each aggregate.
D. Mockups: Build mockups to demonstrate aesthetic effects and set quality standards
for materials and execution.
1. Build mockups for each type of stone masonry approximately 48 inches (1200
mm)] long by 48 inches (1200 mm) high by full thickness, including face and
backup wythes and accessories.
2. Protect accepted mockups from the elements with weather -resistant membrane.
3. Approval of mockups is for color, texture, and blending of stone; relationship of
mortar and sealant colors to stone colors; tooling of joints; and aesthetic
qualities of workmanship.
a. Approval of mockups is also for other material and construction qualities
Architect specifically approves in writing.
b. Approval of mockups does not constitute approval of deviations from the
Contract Documents contained in mockups unless Architect specifically

1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Store cementitious materials on elevated platforms, under cover, and in a dry
location. Do not use cementitious materials that have become damp.

B. Store aggregates where grading and other required characteristics can be maintained
and contamination avoided.
C. Deliver preblended, dry mortar mix in moisture -resistant containers designed for
lifting and emptying into dispensing silo. Store preblended, dry mortar mix in
delivery containers on elevated platforms, under cover, and in a dry location or in a
metal dispensing silo with weatherproof cover.
D. Store masonry accessories, including metal items, to prevent corrosion and
accumulation of dirt and oil.
1.6 PROJECT CONDITIONS
A. Protection of Stone Masonry: During construction, cover tops of walls, projections,
and sills with waterproof sheeting at end of each day's work. Cover partially
completed stone masonry when construction is not in progress.
1. .Extend cover a minimum of 24 inches (600 mm) down both sides and hold
cover securely in place.
B. Stain Prevention: Immediately remove mortar and soil to prevent them from
staining the face of stone masonry.
I . Protect base of walls from rain -splashed mud and mortar splatter by coverings
spread on the ground and over the wall surface.
2. Protect sills, ledges, and projections from mortar droppings.
3. Protect surfaces of window and door frames, as well as similar products with
painted and integral finishes, from mortar droppings.
4. Turn scaffold boards near the wall on edge at end of each day to prevent rain
from splashing mortar and dirt on completed stone masonry.
C. Cold -Weather Requirements: Do not use frozen materials or materials mixed or
coated with ice or frost. Do not build on frozen substrates. Remove and replace
stone masonry damaged by frost or freezing conditions. Comply with cold -weather
construction requirements contained in ACT 530.1/ASCE 6/TMS 602.
1. Cold -Weather Cleaning: Use liquid cleaning methods only when air
temperature is 40 deg F (4 deg C) and above and will remain so until masonry
has dried, but not less than 7 days after completing cleaning.
D. Hot -Weather Requirements: Comply with hot -weather construction requirements
contained in ACI 530.1/ASCE 6/TMS 602.

masonry cement or mortar cement and mortar pigments, all complying with
specified requirements, and containing no other ingredients.
1. Formulate blend as required to produce color indicated or, if not indicated, as
selected from manufacturer's standard colors.
2. Pigments shall. not exceed 10 percent of portland cement by weight.

B. Size: Sufficient to extend at least halfway, but not less than 1-1/2 inches (38 mm),
through stone masonry and with at least 5/8 -inch (16 -mm) cover on outside face.
C. Wire Veneer Anchors: Wire ties formed from W1.7 or 0.148 -inch- (3.8 -mm-)
diameter, hot -dip galvanized steel wire.
1. Ties are bent in the form of loops with legs not less than 15 inches (381 mm) in
length and with last 2 inches (50 mm) bent at 90 degrees.
D. Corrugated -Metal Veneer Anchors: Not less than 0.030 -inch- (0.76 -mm-) thick by
7/8 -inch- (22 -mm-) wide hot -dip galvanized steel sheet with corrugations having a
wavelength of 0.3 to 0.5 inch (7.6 to 13 mm) and an amplitude of 0.06 to 0.10 inch

E. Adjustable, Screw -Attached Veneer Anchors: Units consisting of a wire tie section

formulated from. neoprene urethane or PVC.

2.6 MASONRY CLEANERS
• A. Proprietary Acidic Cleaner: Manufacturer's standard -strength cleaner designed for ,
removing mortar and grout stains, efflorescence, and other new construction stains
from stone masonry surfaces without discoloring or damaging masonry, surfaces;
expressly approved for intended use by cleaner manufacturer and stone producer.
2.7 MORTAR MIXES
A. General: Do not use admixtures, including pigments; air -entraining agents,
accelerators, retarders; water-repellent agents, antifreeze compounds, or other
admixtures, unless otherwise indicated.
l . Do not use calcium chloride.
2. Add cold -weather admixture (if used) at same rate. for all mortar that will be
exposed to view, regardless of weather conditions, to ensure that mortar color is
consistent.
A 3. Mixing Pointing Mortar: Thoroughly mix cementitious and aggregate materials
together before adding water. Then mix again, adding only enough water.to ,
produce a damp, unworkable mix that will retain its form when pressed into a
ball. Maintain mortar in this dampened condition for one to two hours. Add
remaining water in small portions until mortar reaches desired consistency. Use
mortar within 30 minutes of final mixing; do not retemper or use partially
hardened material.
B. Preblended, Dry Mortar Mix: Furnish dry mortar ingredients in the form of a
preblended mix. Measure quantities by weight to ensure accurate proportions, and
thoroughly blend ingredients before delivering to Project site.

C. Mortar for Stone Masonry: Comply with ASTM C 270.
- D. Latex -Modified Portland Cement Setting Mortar: Proportion and mix portland
cement, aggregate, and latex additive to comply with latex -additive manufacturer's
written instructions.
E. Cement -Paste Bond Coat:_ Mix either neat cement and water'or cement, sand, and
water to a consistency similar to that of thick cream.

1. For latex -modified portland cement setting -bed mortar, substitute latex
admixture for part or all of water, according to latex -additive manufacturer's
written instructions.
F. Mortar for Scratch Coat over Unit Masonry: 1 part portland cement, 1 part lime, 7
parts loose damp sand, and enough water to produce a workable consistency.
G. Pigmented Mortar: Use colored cement product or select and proportion pigments
with other ingredients to produce color required.
1. Pigments shall not exceed 10 percent of portland cement by weight.
2. Pigments shall not exceed 5 percent of masonry cement or mortar cement by
weight.
3. If pigments containing carbon black are used, pigments must be limited to 2
percent of portland cement or 1 percent of masonry cement or mortar

4. Mix to match Architect's sample.
H. Colored -Aggregate Mortar: Produce required mortar color by using colored
aggregates and natural color or white cement as necessary to produce required
mortar color.

2.8 FABRICATION
A. Fabricate stone to comply with sizes, shapes, and tolerances recommended by
applicable stone association or, if none, by stone source, for faces, edges, beds, and
backs.
1. For granite, comply with recommendations in NBGQA's "Specifications for
Architectural Granite."
B. Select stone to produce pieces of thickness, size, and shape indicated, including
details on Drawings.. Dress joints (bed and vertical) straight and at right angle to
face unless otherwise Retain first paragraph below for adhered veneer set by tile -
setting method if required by code.
C. Gage backs of stones for adhered veneer if more than 81 sq. in. (522 sq. cm) in area.
D. Thickness of Stone: Provide thickness as indicated on Drawings.
E. Shape stone as indicated on Drawings.

Section 04860
Stone Masonry
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Examine surfaces indicated to receive stone masonry, with Installer present, for
compliance with requirements for installation tolerances and other conditions
affecting performance.
B. Examine substrate to verify that dovetail slots, inserts, reinforcement, veneer
anchors, flashing, and other items installed in substrates and required for or
extending into stone masonry are correctly installed.
C. Examine wall framing, sheathing, and weather -resistant sheathing paper to verify
that stud locations are suitable for spacing of veneer anchors and that installation
will result in a weatherproof covering.
D. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
3.2 PREPARATION
A. Coat concrete and unit masonry backup with asphalt dampproofing.
B. Clean dirty or stained stone surfaces by removing soil, stains, and foreign materials
before setting. Clean stone by thoroughly scrubbing with fiber brushes and then
drenching with clear water. Use only mild cleaning compounds that contain no
caustic or harsh materials or abrasives.
3.3 SETTING OF STONE MASONRY, GENERAL
A. Perform necessary field cutting and trimming as stone is set.
I . Use power saws to cut stone that is fabricated with saw -cut surfaces. Cut lines
straight and true, with edges eased slightly to prevent snipping.
2. Use hammer and chisel to split stone that is fabricated with split surfaces. Make
edges straight and true, matching similar surfaces that were shop or quarry
fabricated.
B. Sort stone before it is placed in wall to remove stone that does not comply with
requirements relating to aesthetic effects, physical properties, or fabrication, or that
is otherwise unsuitable for intended use.
C. Arrange field stones, in random pattern as indicated on Drawings with uniform joint
widths.
D. Arrange granite in uniform pattern as indicated on Drawings.

E. Arrange stones with color and size variations uniformly dispersed for an evenly
blended appearance.
F. Set stone to comply with requirements indicated on Drawings. Install supports,
fasteners, and other attachments indicated or necessary to secure stone masonry in
place. Set stone accurately in locations indicated with edges and faces aligned
according to established relationships and indicated tolerances.
G. Maintain uniform joint widths except for variations due to different stone sizes and
where minor variations are required to maintain bond alignment if any.
H. Provide sealant joints of widths and at locations indicated.
1. Keep sealant joints free of mortar and other rigid materials.
2. Sealing joints is specified in Division 7 Section "Joint Sealants.Always retain
first paragraph below even if flashing is specified in Division 4 Section "Unit
Masonry Assemblies."
I. Install embedded flashing at shelf angles, lintels, ledges, other obstructions to
downward flow of water in wall, and where indicated.
3.4 CONSTRUCTION TOLERANCES
A. Variation from Plumb: For vertical lines and surfaces, do not exceed 1/4 inch in 10
feet (6 mm in 3 m). For external corners, expansion joints, control joints, and other .
conspicuous lines, do not exceed 1/4 inch in 20 feet (6 mm in 6 m).
B. Variation from Level: For bed joints and lines of exposed lintels, sills, parapets,
horizontal grooves, and other conspicuous lines, do not exceed 1/4 inch in 20 feet (6
mm in 6 m).
C. Variation of Linear Building Line:, For position shown in plan, do not exceed 1/2
inch in 20 feet (13 mm in 6 m).
D. Measure variation from level, plumb, and position shown in plan as variation of the
average plane of the face of each stone from level, plumb, or dimensioned plane.
E. Variation in Mortar -Joint Thickness: Do not vary from joint size range indicated
F. Variation in Plane between Adjacent Stones: Do not exceed one-half of tolerance
specified for thickness of stone.
3.5 INSTALLATION OF ADHERED STONE MASONRY VENEER
A. Coat backs of stone units and face of masonry backup with cement -paste bond coat,
then butter both surfaces with setting mortar. Use sufficient setting mortar so a

slight excess will be forced out the edges of stone units as they are set. Tap units
into place, completely filling space between units and masonry backup.
B. Rake out joints for pointing with mortar to depth of not less than 1/2 inch (13 mm)
before setting mortar has .hardened. Rake joints to uniform depths with square
bottoms and clean sides.
3.6 - POINTING
A. Prepare stone joint surfaces for pointing with mortar by removing dust and mortar
particles. Where setting mortar was removed to depths greater than surrounding
areas, apply pointing mortar in layers not more than 3/8 inch (10 mm) deep until a
uniform depth is formed.
B. Point stone -joints by placing and compacting pointing mortar in layers not more
than 3/8 inch (10 mm) deep. Compact each layer thoroughly and allow to become
thumbprint hard before applying next layer.
C. Tool joints, when pointing mortar is thumbprint hard, with a smooth jointing tool to
produce the following joint profile:
l . Joint Profile: Concave for field stone and flush for granite.
3.7 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING
A. Remove and replace stone masonry of the following description
1. Broken, chipped, stained, or otherwise damaged stone. Stone may be repaired if
methods and results are approved by Architect.
2. Defective joints.
3. Stone masonry not matching approved samples and mockups.
4. Stone masonry not complying with other requirements indicated.
B. Replace in a manner that results in stone masonry matching approved samples and
mockups, complying with other requirements, and showing no evidence of
replacement.
C. In -Progress Cleaning: Clean stone masonry as work progresses. Remove mortar
fins and smears before tooling joints.
'D. Final Cleaning: After mortar is thoroughly set and cured, clean stone masonry as
follows:
I. Remove large mortar particles by hand with wooden paddles and nonmetallic
scrape hoes or chisels.

2. Test cleaning methods on mockup; leave one-half of panel uncleaned for
comparison purposes. Obtain Architect's approval of sample cleaning before
cleaning stone masonry.
3. Protect adjacent stone and nonmasonry surfaces from contact with cleaner by
covering them with liquid strippable masking agent, polyethylene film, or
waterproof masking tape.
4. Wet wall surfaces with water before applying cleaner; remove cleaner promptly
by rinsing thoroughly with clear water.
5. Clean stone masonry by bucket and brush hand -cleaning method described in
BIA Technical Note No. 20 Revised 11, using job -mixed detergent solution.
3.8 EXCESS MATERIALS AND WASTE
A. Excess Stone: Stack excess stone where directed by Owner for Owner's use.
B. Excess Masonry Waste: Remove excess clean masonry waste that cannot be used
as fill, as described above, and other waste, and legally dispose of off Owner's
property.

3.02 PREPARATION
A. Aluminum Surfaces Scheduled for Paint Finish: Remove surface contamination by
steam or high-pressure water. Remove oxidation with acid etch and solvent
washing. Apply etching primer immediately following cleaning.
B. Galvanized Surfaces: Remove surface contamination and oils and wash with
solvent. Apply coat of etching primer.
C. Uncoated Steel and Iron Surfaces: Remove grease, scale, dirt, and rust. Where
heavy coatings of scale are evident, remove by wire brushing or sandblasting;
clean by washing with solvent. Apply a treatment of phosphoric acid solution,
ensuring weld joints, bolts, and nuts are similarly cleaned. Prime paint after
repairs.
D. Shop Primed Steel Surfaces: Sand and scrape to remove loose primer and rust.
Feather edges to make touch-up patches inconspicuous. Clean surfaces with
solvent. Prime bare steel surfaces. Prime metal items including shop primed
items.

PART 1 — GENERAL
1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS
A. Drawings and general provisions of the contract, including general and
supplementary conditions apply to this section.
1.2 INCLUDED
A. This section covers electrical work, complete. Work includes furnishing,
installing, calibrating, adjusting, testing, documenting, and starting up equipment
in accordance with these Specifications, the accompanying Plans, and the
directions of the Engineer.
1.3 INTENT OF PLANS
A. Electrical plan drawings show only general locations of equipment, devices, and
raceway unless specifically dimensioned. The Contractor is responsible for the
proper routing of raceway, subject to the approval of the Engineer.
B. Make adjustments as necessary to wiring, conduit, disconnects, branch circuit
protection, and other affected material or equipment to accommodate actual
equipment supplied for this project.
1.4 CODES, PERMITS, AND REGULATIONS
A. Do all work and install materials and equipment in accordance with the
requirements of the California Electrical Code (CEC), applicable State and local
laws and ordinances, and the power company.
B. Conflicts, if any, that may exist among the above items will be resolved at the
discretion of the Engineer.

1.6 ELECTRICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Furnish and install all raceways, conduit, disconnect switches, and conductors
necessary for electrical power supply. Make all power supply terminations to
motors, starters, disconnect switches, control transformers, and other mechanical
devices. Fire alarm contractor to furnish duct smoke detectors in buildings with
fire alarm systems. Provide power to all duct smoke detectors and smoke
dampers. Coordinate all work with mechanical contractors.
PART 2 — PRODUCTS
A. Unless otherwise indicated, provide all first -quality new materials, free from any
defects, and suitable for the intended use and the space provided. Provide
materials approved by UL wherever standards have been established by that
organization.
B. Furnish and install all incidental items not specifically shown or specified which
are required by good practice to provide the complete systems specified herein.
C. Where two or more units of the same class of material or equipment are required,
provide products of a single manufacturer. Component parts of materials or
equipment need not be products of the same manufacturer.

PART 3 — EXECUTION
A. Perform work in a workmanlike manner by craftsmen skilled in the particular
trade. Perform work in accordance with the Plans, Specifications, manufacturer's
recommendations, and the best practice of the trade. Completed work shall
present a neat and finished appearance.
B. Coordinate electrical work with the Owner and the work of other trades to avoid
conflicts, errors, delays, and unnecessary interference during construction.
3.1 PROTECTION DURING CONSTRUCTION
A. Following installation, protect materials, equipment, and insulation from
corrosion, physical damage, and moisture. Cap conduit runs during construction
with manufactured seals., Keep openings in boxes or equipment closed during
construction.
3.2 CUTTING AND PATCHING
A. Do not cut or notch any structural member or building surface without specific
approval of the Engineer. Carefully carryout any cutting, channeling, chasing, or
drilling of floors, walls partitions, ceilings, paving, or other surfaces required for
the installation, support, or anchorage of conduit, raceways, or other electrical
materials and equipment. Following such work, restore surfaces neatly to new
condition using skilled. craftsmen of the trades involved.
3.3 CLEANING AND TOUCH-UP PAINTING
A. Keep the premises free from accumulation of waste material or rubbish. -Upon
completion of work, remove materials, scraps, and debris from the premises and
from the interior and exterior of all devices and equipment. Refinish damaged
surfaces to new condition using skilled craftsmen of the trades involved.

3.7 RACEWAY SUPPORT

B. Wall brackets and associated hardware in contact with concrete or masonry shall
be stainless steel. Provide galvanized steel at all other locations. Strap hangers
and ceiling trapeze including hardware, shall be galvanized steel.
C. Provide and attach wall brackets, strap hangers, or ceiling trapeze as follows:
1. Wood: Wood screws.
2. Hollow Masonry Units: Toggle bolts.

PART II - CONSTRUCTION PROCEDURES AND DETAILS
A. ORDER OF WORK: '
` The order of work shall be determined by the Contractor and approved by the County. ~
The Contractor shall submit a construction schedule to the County for review and approval
prior to starting any contract work.
B. AIR, WATER POLLUTION, EROSION AND DUST CONTROL:
Scope of Work: The Contractor's attention is directed to Standard Specifications, Section 7 '
"Legal Relations and Responsibilities," Section 13 "Water Pollution and Control," Section 14
"Environmental Stewardship" sub -sections 14-1.03 "Type ESA Temporary Fence," 14-9.02 _
"Air Pollution Control," 14-9.03 "Dust Control", 14-10 "Solid Waste Disposal and Recycling,"
and Section 21 "Erosion Control" for requirements related to air and water pollution control
and dust control. The Contractor shall abide by the following regarding the control of dust
and erosion:
1. All exposed earth surfaces shall be watered periodically during construction activities.
This practice shall be conducted twice during the morning and afternoon work hours.
Further, the frequency of watering shall increase if wind speeds exceed 15 miles per
hour averaged over one hour or peak at 20 miles per hour.
2. Mud and dust carried onto street surfaces by construction equipment shall be removed
on a daily basis.
3. Haul trucks shall be covered with tarpaulins or other effective covers at all times.
4. Exposed surfaces shall be,revegetated in accordance with the plans as soon as feasibly
possible.
5. Disturbed areas shall be sufficiently compacted to reduce the potential for erosion. All
slopes greater than 10% and less than 50% that are free of vegetation shall- have
earthguard applied or mulch spread and tacked down prior to a 50% chance of rain.
The ,Contractor shall not be required to submit a water pollution control plan, but shall be .
responsible for adhering to the • requirements of the Standard Specifications, including
providing such water pollution control measures as called for on the plans, and the Erosion
Control Plan for this project and as directed. by the Engineer or the County.
Measurement and Payment: Compensation for providing air and water pollution control and
dust control shall be included in the prices paid for the other items of work in the contract
and no additional payment shall be made therefore.

C. HAZARDOUS WASTE IN EXCAVATION:
Scope of Work: The Contractor's attention is directed to Standard Specification Section 14-
11 "Hazardous Waste and Contamination" for requirements related to 'hazardous waste in
excavation:
If the Contractor encounters material in excavation that he/she has reason to believe, may
be hazardous waste, as defined by §25316 and §25317 of the Health and Safety code,
he/she shall immediately so notify the County in writing. Excavation in the immediate area
of the suspected hazardous material shall be suspended until the County ,authorizes the
work to be resumed. If such suspension delays the current controlling operation, the
Contractor will be granted an extension of time as provided in Section 8-1.10, "Liquidated
Damages", of the Standard Specifications.
If such suspension delays the current controlling operation more than 2 working days, the
delay will be considered a critical delay and the Contractor will be compensated for such
delay as provided in Section 8-1.07, "Delays," of the Standard Specifications.
The County of Butte reserves the right to use other forces for exploratory work to identify
and determine the extent of such material and for removing hazardous material from such
area.
D. UNANTICIPATED CULTUR AL RESOURCES DISCOVERY:
Construction operations on this project may unearth or uncover cultural resources of a
historic or prehistoric nature. If buried or obscured cultural materials are observed during
vegetation removal and/or construction, the work in the area of discovery shall cease, the
County of Butte shall be notified, the encountered resource shall then be identified,
recorded, and an assessment made of the resource by a qualified archaeologist.
The right is reserved to the County of Butte and its authorized agents, including a qualified
archaeologist and appropriate professionals to enter upon the right-of-way for the purpose of
investigating and/or excavating and removing such resources. The Contractor shall
cooperate with forces engaged in such work, and shall conduct his operations in such a
manner to avoid any unnecessary delay or hindrance to the work being performed by such
other forces.
The Contractor shall immediately notify the County of Butte of any delays to his operations
as a direct result of the discovery of possible cultural resources that were not indicated on
the plans or in .the Technical Specifications. Any such delays will be considered a critical
delays within the meaning of Section 8-1.07, "Delays," and compensation for such delay will
be determined in accordance with said Section 8-1.07. The Contractor shall be entitled to no
other compensation for any such delay.

E. RIGHT OF PUBLIC UTILITIES:
The rights of Public Utilities to enter upon the work for the purpose of making changes
necessitated by the demolition are as •specified in Section 5-1.36D of the Standard
Specifications.
F. MAINTENANCE AND CONTROL OF TRAFFIC: '
Scope of Work: The Contractor shall supply at his own expense all flagmen, detour signs,
barricades and all other traffic control devices and personnel in compliance with provisions
of Section 7-1.04 "Public Safety" and Section 12 "Temporary Traffic Control" of the Standard
Specifications, and as ordered by the County, necessary to provide a satisfactory level of
safety. ,
a The Contractor shall provide the County with a Traffic Control Plan five (5) working days
prior to starting work. The Traffic Control Plan shall comply with the Standard Plans and
signs/striping plans. The County retains the right to modify the plan as he may determine
necessary. ,
When leaving a work area and entering a roadway carrying public traffic, the Contractor's-
' equipment, whether empty or loaded, shall in all cases yield to public traffic.
Existing parking lots shall remain open during construction. At no time shall the staging of
equipment or materials occur in the paved parking lot area. If the use of the parking lots is
needed the Contractor shall coordinate with the County prior to closing the parking lots. +
r Measurement and Payment: Full compensation for Maintenance and Control of Traffic
• including signs, shall be included in the prices paid for the other items of work in the contract
and" no separate payment will be made. ,
G. TESTING & INSPECTIONS
Scope of Work: This work shall consist of all testing and inspections required for the .
completion of the work as shown on the .plans and as specified in the Standard
Specifications, Standard Plans and these Technical Specifications.
The County will provide the initial testing as needed. The Contractor will be responsible to
pay for all failed tests as determined'by the Engineer. Tests shall include all tests normally
performed by the Engineer to check the Contractor's compliance with the contract
provisions.
Measurement and Payment: The cost for furnishing testing and inspections shall be
included in the prices paid for the other items of work in the contract and no separate
payment will be made.
H. EROSION CONTROL PLAN

This project is less than 1 acre in size; therefore a California General Permit for Stormwater
Discharges will not be needed.
Scope of Work: The Contractor shall be responsible for providing the necessary labor and
materials, and for taking the appropriate measures pertaining to storm water discharges.
The Contractor is responsible for completing, in a manner acceptable to the County of Butte
the following:
-Utilizing the Erosion Control Plan and BMP details provided as part of the set the
contractor shall install, maintain, conduct daily inspections and removal of, when
completed, the BMP items for this project.
Any modifications to the erosion control plan shall be reviewed by the Engineer, prior to
implementation.
The erosion control plan shall be kept on the site during construction.
It is the Contractor's responsibility to perform daily visual inspections of all stormwater
pollution control devices. Summaries noting the daily inspections shall be submitted
monthly to the contracting agency along with payment requests. The contractor shall
maintain all storm water pollution control devices on the project in proper working order,
including cleaning and/or repair during the duration of the project.
No condition of the erosion control plan shall release the contractor from any responsibilities
or requirements under other environmental statutes and regulations.
The Contractor shall maintain the BMP measures throughout the project. It is the
Contractors responsibility to continue BMP maintenance during any project delays if any
shall occur.
Measurement and Payment: The cost of installing, maintaining, conducting daily inspections
and removal of, when completed, the BMP items shall be measured on a lump sum basis.
The contract lump sum price paid for the erosion control plan shall include full compensation
for furnishing all labor, materials, tools, equipment and incidentals and for doing all the work
involved with the erosion control plan as specified on the plan and these Special Provisions.
All fines due to improper installation of the BMP will be at the Contractors expense.
CONSTRUCTION LAYOUT AND STAKING
Scope of Work: The owner will supply one set of stakes or marks to be set by the
Engineer or Surveyor as he/she determines to be necessary to establish the lines and
grades required for the completion of the work specified in these specifications, on the
plans and in the Special Provisions.
When the Contractor requires the stakes or marks, the Contractor shall notify the
Engineer or Surveyor of the requirements in writing a reasonable length of time in
advance of starting operations that require stakes or marks. In no event, shall notice
of less than three working days be considered a reasonable length of time.

Stakes and ,marks set by the Engineer or Surveyor shall be carefully preserved by the
Contractor. In case the stakes and marks are destroyed or damaged, the stakes and marks
will be replaced at the Engineer's or Surveyor's earliest convenience. The Contractor will be
charged for the cost of necessary replacement or restoration of stakes and marks which in
the judgment of the Engineer or Surveyor were carelessly or willfully destroyed or damaged
by the Contractor's operations. This charge will be deducted from any moneys due or to
become due the Contractor.
Re-establishment shall be performed by a registered Civil Engineer or a licensed Land
Surveyor. All disturbed monuments shall be reestablished after construction is complete.
Measurement and Payment: The cost for furnishing construction layout and staking is not
included in the bid item list.
J. CLEARING, GRUBBING, AND DEMOLITION:
Clearing and grubbing shall conform to the provisions in Section 16, "Clearing and
Grubbing," of the Standard Specifications, Standard Plans and these Technical
Specifications. The area to be cleared and grubbed shall remain within the concrete honor
wall and existing sidewalk lines. Specific items requiring removal include the following list
and all items as shown on the plans.
■ Remove and dispose of the existing fence
■ Remove and dispose of the existing 12" storm drain pipe
• Remove and dispose of the existing flared end section ,
■ Remove and dispose of the cobbled swale as specified on plans
■
'Remove and preserve the existing site light (reinstallation of this light
shall be per the electrical plans)
■ Remove any additional items encountered by the Contractor that are
associated with the completion of this project as determined necessary by
the County.
■ Remove all excess construction materials and equipment at the end of
the project.
Measurement and Payment: Clearing and Grubbing shall be measured on a lump sum
basis. The contract lump sum price paid for clearing and grubbing shall full compensation for
furnishing all labor, materials, tools, equipment and incidentals and for doing all the work
involved in clearing and grubbing including the placement of temporary construction fencing
and the removal of all listed items above, as specified in.the Standard Specifications and
these Special Provision, and as directed by the Engineer.
K. EXISTING FACILITIES:
The work performed in connection with various existing facilities shall conform to the
provisions in Section 15,'"Existing Facilities," of the Standard Specifications and these
Technical Provisions.

. _ The Contractor shall be responsible for locating all existing signs, trees, landscape irrigation
lines and electrical utilities within the project limits whether shown on the plans or not.

Where not in conflict with the work the Contractor shall protect all the existing facilities, and
where in conflict the Contractor shall make the modification necessary to remove or provide
temporary modification to keeps the facilities in working condition. Prior to the start of
construction the Contractor shall be responsible for contacting all utility companies and/or
utility districts as to the location of all underground facilities. The Contractor shall be
responsible for the location of all underground facilities or other buried objects which may be
encountered but may not be shown on these plans. The Contractor shall call Underground
Service Alert (USA) at (800) 227-2600 at least 3 days prior to construction.
The Contractor shall also be responsible for locating all existing irrigation systems within the
project limits whether shown on the plans or not. Where not in conflict with the work the
Contractor shall protect the irrigation systems, and where a conflict with the work is found,
the Contractor shall make the modifications necessary to remove the irrigation system and
leave any part that remains in a fully operational condition as approved by the Engineer.
The cost to repair damaged irrigation systems shall be the responsibility of the Contractor.
Measurement and Payment: The cost to modify any existing facilities shall be included in
the prices paid for the other items of work in the contract and no separate payment will be
made.
WATER:
Scope of Work: The Contractor shall furnish for use under these Technical Provisions all
water required and as set forth under Sections 14-9.03, 17, 19, and 25 of the Standard
Specifications.
Measurement and Payment: The cost for water shall be considered as being included in the
prices paid for other items of work in the contract, and no separate payment will be made.
M. EARTHWORK:
Scope of Work: This work shall consist of performing all necessary work to excavate all
materials and to place fill material where necessary. All earthwork shall conform to the
provision of Section 19, "Earthwork" of the Standard Specifications, the Standard Plans and
these Technical Provisions.
Earthwork shall consist of performing all operations necessary to excavate earth, rock, and
all other materials to prepare for wall installation and to backfill behind the proposed wall as
specified in the wall specifications. Included in the earthwork furnish all equipment
necessary for these operations, and the performances of all incidental work of whatever
nature that may be required to build the grade and maintain it in the form specified.
Included in the work shall be all associated grading of areas to drain, and the scarification
and recompacting to 90% maximum dry density of the top 8 inches of the subgrade.
Where fill material is to be placed all layers when compacted shall not exceed eight inches
(8") in thickness. Each layer shall be spread evenly and be thoroughly mixed during the
spreading to promote uniformity of material in each layer. After each layer has been placed,
mixed and spread evenly, it shall be thoroughly compacted to at least ninety percent (90%)

of the ASTM Specification D1557 Compaction Test. Compaction shall be undertaken with
equipment capable of achieving the specified density and shall be accomplished while the
fill material is at the required moisture content. Each layer shall be compacted over its entire
area until the desired density has been obtained.
All earthwork shall conform to the -Geotechnical Engineering Report for the Oroville
Veteran's Memorial Park by CGI Technical Services Inc. dated August 4, 2009 and the
geotechnical letter updating the original report dated March 24, 216. See Appendix A for a
copy of the Geotechnical Engineering Report and letter. If inconsistent soils conditions are
encountered during earthwork the County shall be notified as soon as possible. .
The County of Butte will be responsible for initial testing but the Contractor shall pay for all
failed tests as determined by the Engineer. The cost of failed tests shall be deducted from
the Contractor's progress payment. Tests shall include all tests normally performed by the
Engineer to check the Contractor's,compliance with the contract provisions. ~
Measurement and Payment' The cost for earthwork shall be considered as being included
in the contract price paid for the Landscape Grading as specified in Volume 3, Landscape
Special Provisions, and no separate payment will be made."
N. CONCRETE WALL OF HONOR W/ FOOTING .
' Scope of Work: Concrete Honor Wall shall be installed as, shown on the Plans and shall
conform the applicable provisions of the California Building Code, 2010 Edition, and the
• 2001 CMC, CPC, CEC, and the CFC as well as all applicable municipal, State, Federal
regulations, these Technical Specifications, the Geotechnical Engineering Report for the
Oroville Veteran's Memorial Park by CGI Technical Services Inc. dated August 4, 2009, and
the geotechnical letter updating the original report dated March 16, 2016. See Appendix A
for a copy of the Geotechnical Engineering Report and letter.
Foundation:
The .Contractor shall be responsible for the location of all underground facilities'or other '
buried objects which may be encountered but which are not shown on the plans.
} Foundation calculations assume stable, undisturbed soils and level or stepped footings.
Any unusual soil conditions such as organic soils or uncertified,fills shall be brought to the
r attention of the Engineer prior to construction.
All excavations shall be inspected and approved by the County before concrete is poured:
Fill material shall be free from debris, vegetation, and other foreign substances.
Engineered fill may be used as existing grade provided tests are presented to the Engineer
of a 90% relative compaction per.ASTM 1557.
The bottom of all footing excavations shall be clean and level:
} All finished grade shall slope at a minimum slope of 2% away from all foundations a
minimum of 6 feet horizontal unless noted otherwise.

The Contractor shall be responsible for determining the exact location of and the securing of
all anchor bolts, holdown anchors or straps, embedments and column baseplates prior to
the foundation inspection, the placement of concrete and/or the installation of structural
'framing members.
Concrete:
All concrete shall have a maximum slump of 4" +/- 1 ", unless otherwise noted. All foundation
and slab on grade concrete has been designed for a minimum f'c=2,500 psi. However,
Contractor shall supply concrete with a minimum f'c = 3,000 psi after 28 days curing.
Aggregate size shall be a maximum of 1-1/2" in foundations and 3/4" at all other locations.
Maximum aggregate size should be reduces to 3/8" where wall thickness is less than 6"
nominal or where reinforcing is sufficiently congested to prevent proper placement with a
larger diameter aggregate.
Curing compound shall be sprayed on all exposed surfaces immediately after final troweling.
All cement used shall conform to ASTM C-150 and shall be Type II or Type III low alkali.
Aggregate shall conform to ASTM C-33 and shall not contain materials which are alkali
reactive as determined by ASTM C-227, 289, and 295. If test data is* unavailable in regards
to alkali reactive materials, provide cement with maximum alkali content less than 0.45% by
weight.
Vibrate concrete around all bolts, rebar and surfaces.
Construction joints shall be clean and wet prior to placing concrete.
Concrete shall have a water -cement ratio of 0.47 to 0.52 Ib./Ib. or less. Addition of water at
the job site is not permitted unless special inspection has been provided and test specimens
are taken. If hot weather conditions are anticipated at the job site, concrete materials
(aggregates, mixing water, and cement) shall be cooled prior to mixing, and 'retarders or
plasticizers may be added to provide workable concrete. Forms, reinforcing steel and
subgrade shall be fogged or sprinkled with cool water just before concrete is placed.
All projecting corners of slabs, beams, columns, walls, etc. shall be formed with a 3/4"
chamfer, unless specifically noted otherwise.
Calcium chloride admixtures or chloride -based admixtures shall not be used.
Concrete shall be air entrained a minimum of 5% and maximum of 7%, where exposed to
freezing / thawing conditions.
Reinforcing Steel:
Reinforcing steel shall conform to the provisions of ASTM A-615, Grade 40 for #4 bars and
smaller'and ASTM A-615, Grade 60 for #5 bars and larger. All rebar is to be deformed.
Welded wire fabric shall conform to the provisions of ASTM A 185.
All lap splices shall not be less than 62 bar diameters of the larger bar. Horizontal laps in
adjacent bars shall be staggered 5'- 0" minimum.
Reinforcement cover shall be as follows:

— Concrete cast against and permanently exposed to soil: 3" clear
Concrete with soil or weather exposure: ( #5 bars and smaller) 1 1/2" clear
(#6 bars and larger) 2" clear
— Concrete without soil or weather exposure: 3/4" clear
All rebar bends shall be made cold. #5 and larger rebar shall not be re-bent.
All reinforcing steel shall be accurately secured in position before and during concrete
placement.
All reinforcing steel shall be clean and free of deleterious materials at the time of concrete
placement.
Each reinforcing bar shall be wired to a cross bar at a maximum spacing of 24" o.c. or at
every intersection.
A "standard hook" is defined as either a 1800 bend plus a 4 bar diameter extension, but not
less than 2 1/2" at the free end of the bar or a 950 bend plus a 12 bar diameter extension at
the free end of the bar. Hooks for stirrups and ties shall be as follows:
— #5 bar and smaller, 950 bend plus 6 bar diameter extension at free end of
bar, or
— #6, #7 and #8 bar, 950 bend plus 12 bar diameter extension at free end of
bar, or
— #8 bar and smaller, 1350 bend plus 6 bar diameter extension at free end of
bar.
Retaining Walls:
Backfill shall not be placed until the wall concrete or grout has cured for a minimum of 21
days. The Contractor shall provide shoring (designed by the Contractor) for the wall while
compacting backfill
Unless noted otherwise, walls have not been designed to accommodate permanent
surcharge loads due to footings, large vegetation (trees or bushes greater than 6'-0" tall),
light poles, flag poles, fences or other loads occurring within twice the height of the retained
soil behind the wall or on the wall (i.e. for a 5'-0" wall, these loads shall occur at least 10'-0"
or greater behind the wall). Retained soil at top of wall shall be graded flat (i.e. no slope is
allowed) unless noted otherwise. '
Unless noted otherwise, walls have not been designed to accommodate temporary
surcharge loads due to construction or other loads occurring within twice the height of the
retained soil behind the wall (i.e. for a 5'-0" wall, these loads shall occur at least 10'-0" or
greater behind the wall). These loads include loads from construction equipment or vehicles
such as bulldozers, cranes, etc. or for storage of construction materials. The minimum
distance shall be maintained at all times or shoring must be provided for the walls to
accommodate these loads.
Vertical contraction joint design and spacing shall be provided by the Contractor. As a
minimum, contraction joists shall be cut or formed to a depth approximately 1/4 the
thickness of the wall and shall be placed vertically at 20 feet to 25 feet on center maximum,

but not greater than two to three times the height of the wall, along the length of the wall. In
addition, they shall be places within 10'-0" of ,wall returns that create discontinuities (i.e. "L"
or "T" intersections). ,
' The Contractor shall consult with the County to determine if the wall use will be such that
the outside face of the wall must be dry at all times. If so, it is recommended that
waterproofing (designed by the Contractor) be placed against the backside of the wall
full height from the bottom of the footing to the top of the wall.
Walls shall be placed so as to meet the slope setback requirements of Figure 18-1-1 of
the latest edition of the CBC.
If wall location will be such that water flows are expected near the base (toe; at the
+ outside face) of the wall, measures such as vegetation / ground cover, erosion -control
mats and / or strategic rip -rap placement (minimum 12" diameter) shall be utilized to
ensure that soil erosion does not occur anywhere in this area.
Measurement and Payment: Concrete wall of honor shall be measured by the lineal foot
amount placed inlcuding the footing. The unit price paid per lineal foot of concrete honor wall
shall include full compensation for furnishing all labor, tools, materials and equipment, and
for doing all the work involved in installing the concrete wall of honor as shown on the plans
as required by the Standard Specifications and these Technical Provisions, and as directed
by the Engineer. Wall of honor finishes including but not limited to granite veneer on front
b- and sides, installation of granite plaques and the recessed flag design on back of the wall
shall be per the landscape details and are not included in the measurement and payment of
this item.
O. WALL OF HONOR REINFORCEMENTY ;
Scope of Work: Reinforcement shall conform to the provisions in Section 52,
"Reinforcement," of the Standard Specifications.
Reinforcing steel shall conform to the provisions of ASTM A-615, Grade 40 for #4 bars and -
smaller and ASTM A-615, Grade 60 for #5 bars and larger. All rebar is to be deformed. •
Welded wire fabric shall conform to the provisions of ASTM A 185.
Reinforcement cover shall be as follows:

P. STORM DRAIN PIPE (12" HDPE)
Scope of Work: The Contractor shall furnish for use, as storm drain pipe, type of pipe as
specified in the Plans. Pipe material shall not vary between structures.
Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) and Hiah Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Pipe:
PVC or HDPE pipe shall be in accordance with the requirement of Section 64 of the
• Standard Specifications, except, that Type C corrugated polyethylene pipe shall not be
allowed.
Smooth interior wall ribbed polyvinyl chloride drain pipe shall meet the requirements for
materials and installation of Section 64, "Plastic Pipe," of the Standard Specifications for
sizes 18 -inch to 48 -inch.
Polyvinyl Chloride sewer pipe 10 -inch to 15 -inch having integral bell and spigot joints, shall
conform to ASTM Specification D3034 with a maximum dimensional ratio (DR) of 35.
Provision must be made for contraction and expansion at each joint with a rubber ring
gasket conforming to ASTM 3212. Fittings and accessories shall be manufactured and
furnished by the pipe supplier or approved equal and shall be compatible in all respects with
the pipe. Installation shall meet the requirements of ribbed polyvinyl chloride drain pipe of
Section 64, "Plastic Pipe", of the Standard Specifications.
Smooth interior Type S corrugated polyethylene pipe or ribbed profile wall polyethylene pipe'
t shall meet the requirements for materials and installation of Section 64, "Plastic Pipe" of the
Standard Specifications for sizes 12 inches through 36 inches. '
Trench Excavation: Trench excavation shall conform to the provisions in Section 19-3,
"Structure Excavation and Backfill", of the Standard Specifications and these Technical
Provisions. The excavation for storm drain pipe shall not be made further in advance of
laying the pipe than is practical to complete the pipe laying and backfill operation each day.
i.Excavation for Lavina Pipe: Pipe shall, unless otherwise directed, be laid in open cut. {
All trenches shall have vertical sides from the bottom to a point at least six (6) inches
r above the top of the pipe. Above this point in unstable ground, with the written
consent of the Engineer, the trench may be sloped as directed. Trenches shall be
six (6) inches minimum, wider on each side, or a total of twelve (12) inches minimum,
wider than the exterior diameter of the pipe, exclusive of sockets. In the event that
" sheeting is required, the width 'of the trench shall be increased sufficiently to
accommodate the sheeting. Sheeting shall not be driven below the invert grade of
the pipe unless absolutely necessary due to ground conditions, as sheeting is to be
removed in conjunction with the. backfilling. If sheeting is driven below the invert
grade as required above, it shall remain in place, except that portion two (2) feet
above the top of the pipe, which shall be cut off and removed as the backfilling is
completed.
When using movable trench support, care shall be exercised not to disturb the pipe
locations, jointing or embedment. Any voids left in the embedment material by support

removal shall be carefully filled with compacted granular material. Removal of any bracing
between sheeting, trench boxes or shields shall only be done where backfilling procedures
permit removal without loss of trench support. Any longitudinal movement or disjointing of
pipe which results from movement of trench boxes or shields shall be corrected before
additional pipe is placed.
ii.Trenches in rock: Every trench in rock shall *be fully opened to a final depth at least
thirty (30) feet in advance of any place where pipe is being laid. In rock the trench
shall be carried six (6) inches below the external diameter of the pipe. Bedding
material consisting of clean washed sand, with a maximum particle size of 1/4 inch,
and with a minimum of 70 percent passing a No. 20 screen or graded sand and'
gravel with a maximum ,particle size of 3/4 inches conforming to the graduation
requirements for Class 2 Aggregate Base per Section 26 of the Standard
Specifications, shall be placed, spread and compacted to provide a firm uniform bed
for supporting the pipe.
iii.Soil Testing: Should soil conditions such as running water or unstable soils be
encountered during trench excavation, the director may require testing in advance of
excavation to determine the nature and extent of the conditions. After such
determination is made, the Engineer may require modified trenching and embedment .
procedures, as required by soil conditions.
0.
iv.Preoaration of Subgrade: The subgrade for pipe shall be so prepared that the entire
length of each section of pipe shall have a firm and uniform bearing except for such `
distance as is necessary for bell holes and the proper sealing of the pipe joints. Bell
holes below the elevations of the pipe subgrade shall not be larger than one-fourth
(1/4) of the distance between pipe joints. ;
v.Overcut: Excavations shall be carried to the exact depth indicated on the plans or as
specified. Should the Contractor, through his or her negligence or other fault,
excavate below the designed lines, he or she shall replace such excavation with
approved materials at his own expense.
vi.Aboroval of Excavations: The Contractor shall notify the Engineer and the County when
excavations for structure or pipes are completed, and no concrete shall be deposited
r or,pipes laid until the excavations are approved.
Trench Backfill, Storm Drain: Trench backfill shall conform to the provisions in Section 19-3,
"Structure Excavation and Backfill",of the Standard Specifications and these .Technical
Provisions.
i. Polyvinyl Chloride and Polyethylene Pipe: Pipe bedding and shading material
from the bottom of the trench to a plane one foot above the top of the plastic
pipe shall be clean sand with a maximum particle size 1/4 -inch and minimum of
70% passing a No. 20 screen, Class 2 aggregate base, 3/4" maximum grading,
compacted to a relative compaction of not less than 95% or Slurry Cement
Backfill as specified in Section 19-3.06 Slurry Cement Backfill of the Standard
Specifications. Backfill material from a plane one foot above the top of the
plastic pipe to subgrade shall meet the above requirements for reinforced
concrete pipe.

ii. Slurry Cement Backfill: Slurry cement backfill as specified in Section 19-3.02
"Slurry Cement Backfill" may be used as backfill from the bottom of the trench
to 2 inches below the finished pavement surface. Asphalt concrete, Type B
shall be placed over the slurry cement backfill to finished grade. When slurry
t t cement is used as backfill in this manner Type 17 pavement replacement shall
not be required.
iii. Disposal of Excess Material: Excess materials which have been excavated from
trenches, and which cannot be utilized for backfill, shall be removed and
disposed of at the Contractors expense.
iv. Compaction: Compaction of backfilled material by ponding or jetting will not be
allowed unless specifically authorized by the Engineer.
Measurement and Payment: Storm drain pipe shall be measured by the lineal foot along the
centerline of pipe to the inside face of the structure. When pipes are cut to fit a structure or
slope, the quantity to be paid for will be the length of pipe necessary to be placed. The
contract price paid per lineal foot of storm drain pipe shall include full compensation for
furnishing all labor, material, tools, equipment and doing all the work involved in installing
pipe, complete in place, including structure excavation and structure backfill, including
sawcutting and removal of existing pavement surfacing, and connecting new pipe to existing
or new facilities, including concrete collars, concrete tees, or concrete crossing cradles
(saddle), and reinforcement as shown on the plans, as required by the Standard
Specifications, the Standard Plans and these Technical Provisions, and as directed by the
Engineer.
-Q. PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE AREA DRAINS (18"X18" AREA DRAIN)
Scope of Work: Portland cement concrete drop inlets shall conform to the provisions in
Section 51, "Concrete Structures," of the Standard Specifications, the Standard Plans and
these Technical Provisions.
Concrete drop inlets/area drains shall be of the size as stated on the plans and shall be
Class "A" concrete as specified in Section 90, " Concrete," of these Technical Provisions.
Portland cement concrete drop inlets, frames, grates and cover plates shall be of the
dimensions as shown on the plans.
Measurement and Payment: Portland Cement Concrete Drop Inlets shall be measured per
each, complete in place. The contract price paid for each Portland cement concrete drop
inlets shall include full compensation for furnishing all labor, materials, tools, equipment,
frame, grating and cover plate and doing all the work involved in constructing concrete drop
inlets, including structure excavation and structure backfill; formwork, reinforcing steel, and
concrete placement, complete in place, as shown on the plans, as required by the Standard
Specifications, the Standard Plans and these Technical Provisions and as directed by the
Engineer.

R. TEMPORARY CONSTRUCTION FENCING'
Scope of Work: Temporary Fence shall be furnished and constructed, maintained, and later -
removed as specified in these Technical Provisions, and as directed by the County.
Except as otherwise specified in this section, temporary fences shall be 6' tall wire mesh and
shall conform to the specifications for permanent fences of similar character as provided in
Section 80, "Fences," of the Standard Specifications.
Used materials may be used providing such used materials are good, sound, and are
` suitable for the purpose intended.
Materials may be commercial quality providing the dimensions and sizes of said materials
are equal to, or greater than, the dimensions and sizes shown on the plans or specified by
the specifications.
• i. Posts shall be either metal or wood at the Contractor's option.
ii. Galvanizing and.painting of steel items will not be required.
iii. • Treating wood with wood preservatives will not be required.
iv. Concrete footings for metal posts will not be required. ,
'r Temporary fences that are damaged from any cause during the progress of the work shall
be repaired or replaced by the Contractor at his expense.
" When no longer required for the work as determined by the Engineer or the County,
temporary fences shall be removed. Removed facilities shall become the property of the
Contractor and shall be removed from the site of the work.
Holes caused by the removal of temporary fences shall be backfilled in accordance with the
provisions in the second, paragraph of Section 15-1.02, "Preservation of Property," of the
Standard Specifications.
Measurement and Payment: Temporary fences will be measured on a lump sum basis. The
lump sum price paid for temporary fence shall include full compensation for furnishing all ,
labor, materials; tools, equipment, and incidentals, and for doing all the work involved in.
constructing temporary fence, including maintaining, removing, and disposing, complete in
place, as specified in the Standard Specifications and these Technical Provisions, and as
directed by the Engineer.
