Before tightening the bolts we verified that the materials used in this assembly were in conformance with the requirements of section 2 (Bolts, Nuts, Washers and Paint) and section 3 (Bolted Parts) of the RCSC Specifications., The bolts used in this structure were W A325 grade high strength bolts with hardened steel washers beneath hardened steel nuts. (X) Torque Wrench W/ Washers -- The Calibrated Wrench Tightening method was used per Section 9.2.2 of the RCSC Specifications. A representative sample of 3 bolts from each diameter, length, and grade used in this structure were tightened in the Skidmore Wilhelm tension -indicating device using a calibrated dial -indicator torque wrench. Three readings were recorded, on the wrench, for each bolt size, in order to establish an average job test torque to provide a tension not less than five percent in excess of the minimum tension specified in Table 8.1 of the RCSC Specifications. Each bolt assembly was installed and tightened to a snug -tight condition by the contractor prior to tightening. There were a total of 54 bolts in the structure, all were tightened using the above mentioned procedure. Based on the above mentioned procedure, it is ourjudgment that all A325 high strength bolts installed in the structure have been properly tensioned in accordance with the RCSC Specifications for Structural Joints contained in the AISC Manual for Steel Construction. The clear.'distance available was 6'-0:' and'several of the footings along this.side were designed to. be wider than the, available space., Attached are details.showing how adequate .foo ings*can be constructed in, this. space by -making up,for the reduction in one dimension by increasing the overall length. Supporting. . calculations for this change are •also ,attached. On the opposite side of the`building,'at Gridline A4,.it was fourid'that a'small pad footing.from the existing. _ building intrudes. approximately 6" into.one of the proposed footings: The overall size of the; intruding footing is about 2' x 6" x 12:' thick while the.peoposed footing is 6'=8" xV-0" x 2'70.thick. The existing footing is located such that the,proposed•footing can be placed around it and the new reinforcing will not be affected. Building the new footing around the existing footing will have negligible effect on"the structural adequacy of the new footing. ' This change is also shown in the attached details.
