We provided special inspection on this project from 08-17=16 through 03-03-17. Listed below are the procedures that were inspected and/or tested along with the applicable standards. Concrete Provided periodic inspection during concrete placement to include reinforcing steel placement and slump tests. Monitored placement operations and consolidation. Prepared compression test samples. Tested concrete compression samples in laboratory per ASTM and UBC standards. High Strength Bolting Verified bolts, nuts and washers are the grade specified in the approved plans. If „ required, obtain samples of the bolts, nuts and washers for physical testing. Establish the minimum test torque using a Skidmore -Wilhelm tension indicating load cell in accordance with AISC Manual for Steel Construction. Epoxied Anchors/Holdowns Verify installation of epoxied seismic anchor bolts per approved plans and specifications, to include: ensuring holes are brushed & blown clean with compressed air, monitoring injection of the adhesive into each hole in sufficient quantity, and'ensuring bolts are rotated during and after insertion. Before tightening the bolts we verified that the materials used in this assembly were in conformance with the requirements of section 2 (Bolts, Nuts, Washers and Paint) and section 3 (Bolted Parts) of the RCSC Specifications. The bolts used in this structure were A325 grade high strength bolts with hardened steel washers beneath hardened steel nuts. The Calibrated Wrench Tightening method was used per Section.9.2.2 of the RCSC Specifications. A representative sample of 3 bolts from each diameter, length, and grade used in this structure were tightened in the Skidmore Wilhelm tension -indicating device using a calibrated dial -indicator torque wrench. Three readings were recorded, on the wrench, for each bolt size, in order to establish an average job test torque to provide a tension not less than five percent in excess of the minimum tension specified in Table 8.1 of the RCSC Specifications. Each bolt assembly was installed and tightened to a snug -tight condition by the contractor prior to tightening. There were a total of 448 bolts in the structure, all were tightened / tested using the above mentioned procedure.
