the requlrements of this chapter or the underside of the exposed underfloor shall consist of one of the following:

1.3. One layer of 5/8 -inch Type X gypsum sheathing applied behind an exterior covering on the underside of the floor
projection

SECTION 105A - ROOFIN6
I. General- Roofs shall have a roofing assembly installed in accordance with its listing and the manufacturer's installation
instructions.
2. Roof Coverings- Hhere the roof covering allows a space between the roof covering and roof decking, the spaces
shall be constructed to prevent the intrusion of flames and embers, be fire stopped with approved materials or have
one layer of 121b. mineral -surfaced non -perforated cap sheet installed over the combustible decking.
3. Roof Valleus-When provided, valley flashings shall be not less than 0.0161" (No. 26 galvanized sheet gage)
corrosion -resistant metal installed over a minimum 36" -wide underlayment consisting of one layer of 121b.
mineral -surfaced non -perforated cap sheet running the full length of the valley.
4. Roof Gutters- roof gutters shall be provided with the means to prevent the accumulation of leaves and debris in the
gutter.
SECTION 106A - VENTILATION
I. General- Where provided, ventilation openings for enclosed attics, enclosed cave soffit spaces, enclosed rafter
spaces formed where ceilings are applied directly to the under -side of roof rafters, and underfloor ventilation shall
be in accordance with Section 1203 and Sections 106A.1 through 106A.3 to resist building ignition from the intrusion of
burning embers and flame through the ventilation openings.
2. Requirements- Ventilation openings for enclosed attics, enclosed cave soffit spaces, enclosed rafter spaces formed
where ceilings are applied directly to the underside of roof rafters, and underfloor ventilation openings shall be fully
covered with metal wire mesh, vents, other materials or other devices that meet the following requirements:
2.1. The dimensions of the openings therein shall be a minimum of 1/I6 -inch (1.6 mm) and shall not exceed I/8 -inch (3.2
mm).
2.2. The materials used shall be noncombustible.
Exception: Vents located under the roof covering, along the ridge of roofs, with the exposed surface of the vent
covered by noncombustible wire mesh, may be of combustible materials.
2.3. The materlals used shall be corrosion resistant.
3. Ventilation openings on the underside of eaves and cornices- Vents shall not be installed on the underside of eaves
and cornices.
Exceptions:
3.1. The enforcing agency may accept or approve special cave and cornice vents that resist the intrusion of flame
and burning embers.
3.2. Vents complying with the requirements of Section 106A.2 may be installed on the underside of eaves and cornices
in accordance with either one of the following conditions:
3.2.1. The attic space being ventilated is fully protected by on automatic sprinkler system installed in accordance
with Section x03.3.1.1 or,
3.2.2. The exterior wall covering and exposed underside of the cave are of noncombustible material, or
ignition -resistant materials as determined in accordance with 5FM standard 12-1A-5 Ignition -Resistant
Material and the vent is located more than 12 feet from the ground or walking surface of a deck, porch,
patio or Similar surface.
SECTION 106A - EXTERIOR WINDOWS AND DOORS
I. Exterior glazing- The following exterior glazing materials and/or assemblies shall comply with this section:
I.I. Exterior windows
1.2. Exterior glazed doors
1.3. Glazed openings within exterior doors
1.4. Glazed openings within exterior garage doors
1.5. Exterior structural glass veneer
IB. Exterior windows and exterior glazed door assembly requirements- Exterior windows and exterior glazed door
assemblies shall comply with one of the following requirements:
16.1 Be constructed of multiparae glazing with a minimum of one tempered pane meeting the requirements of Section
2406 Safety Glazing, or
15.2 Be constructed of glass block units, or
I15.3 Have a fire -resistance rating of not less than 20 minutes when tested according to NFPA 251, or
10.4 Be tested to meet the performance requirements of 5FM Standard 12 -IA -2
10. 5tructural glass veneer- The wall assembly behind structural glass veneer shall comply with Section IMA.3.
2. Exterior Doors- Exterior doors shall comply with one of the following:
2.1. The exterior surface or cladding shall be of non-combustible or ignition -resistant material, or
2.I.o. Shall be constructed of solid core wood that comply with the following requirements:
2.1.b. Stiles and rails shall not be less than 13/8 inches thick.
2.2. Raised panels shall not be less than I % inches thick, except for the exterior perimeter of the raised panel that
may taper to a tongue not less than 3/8 inch thick.
2.3. Shall have a fire -resistance rating of not less than 20 minutes when tested according to NFPA 252.
2.4. Shall be tested to meet the performance requlrements of 5FM Standard 12 -IA -1.
26. Exterior door glazing- Glazing in exterior doors shall comply with Section 708A.IA.
SECTION 109A - DECKIN6
I. General- The walking surface material of decks, porches, balconies and stairs shall comply with the requirements of this
section.
2. Where Required- The walking surface material of decks, porches, balconies and stairs shall comply with the
requirements of this section when any portion of such surface is within 10 feet (3048 mm) of the building.
3. Decking Surfaces- The walking surface material of decks, porches, balconies and stairs shall be constructed with one
of the following materials:
3.1. Ignition -resistant material that complies with the performance requirements of both 5FM Standard 12 -?A-4 and
5FM Standard 12 -IA -5.
3.2. Exterior fire retardant treated wood
3.3. Non-combustible material
3.4. Any material that complies with the performance requirements of 5FM 5tandord 12 -7A -4A when attached exterior
wall covering 15 also either non-combustible or ignition -resistant material.
Exception: Hall material may be of any material that otherwise complies with this chapter when the decking surface
material complies with the performance requirements A5TM E 84 with a Class B flame spread rating.
UNDERFLOOR AND APPENDAQE5 PROTECTION
I. Underside of Appendages and floor Projections- The underside of cantilevered and overhanging appendages and
floor projections shall maintain the ignition -resistant integrity of the exterior walls, or the projection shall be enclosed
to the grade.
2. Unenclosed underfloor protection- Buildings shall have all underfloor areas enclosed to the grade with exterior walls.
Exception: The complete enclosure of under floor areas be omitted where the underside of all exposed floors,
exposed structural columns, beams and supporting walls are protected as required with exterior ignition -resistant
material construction or be heavy timber.
