General
Description
Tyco® CPVC Pipe and Fittings pro-
duced by Tyco Fire & Building Prod-
ucts (TFBP) are designed exclusively
for use in wet pipe automatic fire sprin-
kler systems. The Tyco CPVC Pipe
and Fittings are produced from Blaze-
Mastero CPVC compound that is a
specially developed thermoplastic
compound composed of post chlorin-
ated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) resin
and state of the art additives. Tyco
CPVC Pipe and Fittings are easier to
install than traditional steel pipe sys-
tems, and at the same time, provide
superior heat resistance and strength
as compared to traditional CPVC and
PVC piping materials used in the
plumbing trade. Various adapters are
available to connect CPVC pipe to me-
tallic piping. All female pipe thread
adapters have brass inserts for dura-
bility. Grooved adapters connect di-
rectly to grooved end valves and me-
tallic pipe, with flexible grooved end
couplings. .

stalled and maintained in compliance
with this document and with the appli-
cable standards of the National Fire
Protection Association, in addition to

pair the performance of these devices.

vices in proper operating condition.

Installation

ucts (TFBP) are to be installed in
accordance with Installation Hand-
book IH -1900 dated June 2008.
Care and
Maintenance
The owner is responsible for the in-
spection, testing, and maintenance of
their fire protection system and de-
vices in compliance with this. docu-
ment, as well as with the applicable
standards of the National Fire Protec-
tion Association (e.g., NFPA 25), in
addition to the standards of any
authority having jurisdiction. The in-
stalling contractor or product manufac-
turer should be contacted relative to
any questions.
Automatic sprinkler systems should be
inspected, tested, and maintained by a
qualified Inspection Service in accord-
ance with local requirements .and/or
national codes.
NOTICE'
Before closing a fire protection system
control valve for inspection or mainte-
nance work on the fire protection sys-
tem that it controls, permission to shut
down the affected fire protection sys-
tem must first be obtained from the
proper authorities and all personnel
who may be affected by this action
must be notified.
After placing a fire protection system
in service, notify the proper authorities
and advise those responsible for moni-
toring proprietary and/or central. sta-
tion alarms.

Function — Intended to perforrn as a hanger/restrainer to suppol t
CPVC piping used in automatic fire sprinkler systems. Fig. 23 can
be installed on the top, bottom or side of a beam. The Fig. 23 also
functions as a restrainer to prevent the upward movement of the
sprinkler head during activation.
Approvals. — Underwriters' Laboratories Listed in the USA (UL)
and Canada (cUL) sizes 3/4" thru 2" to support fire sprinkler piping.

or into minimum 20 gauge steel using () 1/4" x 1" tek type screm
lvleets and exceeds the requirements of NFPA 13., 13R and 13D.
Features — Fig. 23 incorporates features which"protect the pipe.'
and ease installation. The flared edge design protects the CPVC `f pipe from any rough surface. It also incorporatessnap restrain-
ers allowing easier- and faster installation. Easily attaches to the i
building structure using the two UL Listed hex head self thread-
inn screws* furnished with the product. It is recommended that

The Model VSR-SFG is a vane type waterflow switch for use on wet sprinkler
systems using CPVC plastic fittings manufactured by Central Sprinkler
Corp., Grinnell Sprinkler Corp., Spears Manufacturing Co., and IPEX
(Scepter) that use I", 1-1/4", 1-1/2" or 2" pipe sizes. It is equipped with a
union to accommodate installation in confined spaces.
The unit contains two single pole double throw snap action switches and an
adjustable, instantly recycling pneumatic retard. The switches are actuated
when a flow of 8-I6 gallons per minute (30-38 liters per minute) or more
occurs downstream of the device. The flow condition must exist for a period
of time necessary to overcome the selected retard period.
INSTALLATION: These devices maybe mounted on horizontal or vertical
pipe. On horizontal pipe they should be installed on the top side of the pipe
where they will be accessible. The units should not be installed within 6" (15
cm) of valve, drain or fitting which changes the direction of the waterflow.
The unit has a I" male fitting for gluing into a CPVC plastic TEE.
Loosen the union nut and separate the 1 male fitting from the VSR-SFC.
Glue the I" male fitting into the TEE following the TEE manufacturer's
instructions for preparation and gluing of CPVC piping systems. (NOTE:
'rite.l" male fitting must )utton, out on the stop of the TEE for proper
operation of the VSR-SFG. See Fig. I.) Wait 2 to 4 hours to allow the
glue to dry before attaching the VSR-SFG to the I" male fitting. Select the
proper paddle for the pipe size and type of TEE used. See Fig. 3 and Fig. 5
for instructions on how to change paddle. Verify that the o -ring is properly
positioned in its groove. I land tighten the nut on the union after orienting the
device in the appropriate direction to detect waterflow as shown in Fig. 2.
CAUTION: Do not over -tighten the union nui, hand lighten only!
'1'he vane most not rub the inside of the TEE or bind in any way. The stem
should move freely when operated by hand.
1 NSPECTI ON AND TESTING: Check the operation of the unit by opening
the inspector's test valve at the end of the sprinkler line or the drain and test
connection, if an inspector's test valve is not provided.
If there are no provisions for testing the operation of the flow detection
device on the system, application ofthe VSR-SFG is not recommended or
advisable.
The frequency of the inspection and testing and its associated protective
monitoring system should be in accordance with the applicable NFPA
Codes and Standards and/or authority having jurisdiction (manufacturer
recommends quarterly or more frequently).
