2016 California Energy Code
Scope of Work:
Add electrical to existing barn.
Notes:
1. Refer to the following:
a. Agricultural buildings where excessive dust and dust with water may accumulate, including all areas of
poultry, livestock, and fish confinement systems, where litter dust or feed dust, including mineral feed
particles, may accumulate.
b. The wiring method in the Barn must be in compliance with the wiring system as specified in 2016 CEC
Art. 547.5(A) through (G).
Types UF, NMC, copper SE cables, jacketed Type MC cable, rigid nonmetallic conduit,
Liquid tight flexible nonmetallic conduit, or other cables or raceways suitable for the location, with
approved termination fittings, shall be the wiring methods employed. The wiring methods of Article 502,
Part II, shall be permitted for areas described in 547. 1 (A)
c. An area where wire mesh or other conductive elements are embedded in or placed under concrete,
bonded to all metal structures and fixed nonelectrical equipment that may become energized, and
connected to the electrical grounding system to prevent a difference in voltage from developing within
the plane. 2016 CEC Art. 547.2, Equipotential Plane.
d. Switches, including pushbuttons, relays, and similar devices, receptacles, circuit breakers, controllers,
and fuses, shall be provided with enclosures as specified in 547.5(C). 2016 CEC Art. 547.6
e. 2016 CEC Art. 547.8 Luminaires. Luminaires shall comply with 547.8(A) through -(C).
(A) Minimize the Entrance of Dust. Luminaires shall be installed to minimize the entrance of dust,
foreign matter, moisture, and corrosive material.
(B) Exposed to Physical Damage. Luminaires exposed to physical damage shall be protected by a suitable
guard.
(C) Exposed to Water. Luminaires exposed to water from condensation, building cleansing water, or
solution shall be listed as suitable for use in wet locations.
2. Provide bonding of equipotential planes per CEC Art. 547.10
3. All electrical outlets to be GFCI.

4. Electrical panel and sub -panels grounding shall comply 2016 CEC Article 250-32. Provide separate grouniPE®IN
wire to each panel from main electrical service entrance panel. R

5. The panel board(s) shall be provided with a circuit directory or circuit identification. C.E.C. Article
408.3(f). Every circuit and circuit modification shall be legibly identified as to its clear, evident, and
specific purpose or use. The identification shall include an approved degree of detail that allows each
circuit to be distinguished from all others. Spare positions that contain unused overcurrent devices or
switches shall be described accordingly. The identification shall be included in a circuit directory that
is located on the face or inside of the panel door in the case of a panelboard and at each switch or
circuit breaker in a switchboard or switchgear. No circuit shall be described in a manner that depends
on transient conditions of occupancy.
6. All luminaries installed in residential construction must qualify as "high efficacy luminaires in accordance
with Table 150.0-A. 2016 California Energy Code, Section 150.0(k). /
7. All lights permanently mounted to the residential building or to other buildings on the same lot are to be
A. High efficacy luminaries and
B. Controlled by a manual on and off switch and
1. Controlled by a photocell and motion sensor, or
2. Photo control, or
3. Astronomical time clock, or
4. Energy management control system (FMCS).
