Please note the following changes affecting all residential
permits applied for as of January 1, 2011
CARBON MONOXIDE ALARMS
All permits for alterations, repairs or additions with a value exceeding
$1000 require the installation of carbon. monoxide alarms if the
dwelling contains fuel burning appliances or an attached garage.
Alarms are .required. to be installed in the following .locations:
• Outside of each sleeping area (hallway leading to bedrooms)
On every level of the dwelling including basements

All permits for alterations, repairs or additions with a value exceeding
*$1000 require the installation of smoke alarms in the following
locations:
...In each sleeping room
• Outside of each sleeping area (hallway leading to bedrooms)
•. On each additional story of the dwelling including basements
and habitable attics
Note: Alarms may be solely battery operated if the alterations do'not result in
removal of wall and ceiling finishes or there is' no access by means of a crawl
space.
