Subject: Event Ordinance
Last year, after a convoluted and painful process, Butte County adopted an
ordinance governing the operation of wedding and event venues.
At that time there were several venues that had been in operation without
permits. They were told that they would be required to obtain a permit if they
wished to continue operation and were give a "grace period"to apply and
conform to the ordinance. Several existing venues took advantage of the grace
period and began the process to come into compliance with the law.
Several other venues have refused to comply and have continued operation in
contravention of the ordinance. They state that they are operating as a "non-
profit business' or are accepting "donations" only, There is no oversight on
their operations as far as neighborhood compatibility, sanitation, traffic, noise,
water, environmental impact or other issues as required by the ordinance.
Their actions are placing an unfair and inequitable burden on those businesses
that have paid the fees and played by the rules.
To date there has been no action by Butte County Code Enforcement or the
Planning Department to remedy the situation
It is the strong recommendation of the NVERC* that Butte County vigorously
pursue and remedy the situation by enforcing the Ordinance and causing these
"rogue" venues to come into compliance or cease and desist operation until
they do.
