HomeMy WebLinkAbout00-018WHEREAS. "The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) initiated February as American History Month. Its main objectives are historical, educational and patriotic; and WHEREAS, the Society was incorporated June ~, 1891, and in 1896 was chartered by Congress to which it reports annually through the Smithsonian Institution; and WHEREAS, more than 700,000 members have joined the NSDAR since its founding. There are chapters in all 50 states, District of Columbia, Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, France and Mexico; and WHEREAS, American history certificates and medals are awarded each year to children in the fifth through eighth grades. "The topic for this year's contest and celebration is "An Obituary for George Washington"' in observance of the 200-year anniversary of his death. NOW, TI~IEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board c)f Supervisors recognizes February as American History Month.
