WHEREAS. Proposition 2$ would eliminate approximately two million dollars a year
from children's healthcare and preschool education programs in Butte Count} ;and
WHEREAS, research and experience have shown time and again that investing in our
children early and often is the best way to guarantee them a bright and healthy future; and
WHEREAS, the passage of Proposition 10, the California Children and Families Act,
was a tremendous victory for California's children and families, therefore, any effort to repeal
Proposition 10 must be based on some motive other than the health and well-being of our
children; and
WHEREAS, Butte County's children desperately need this funding, therefore, we
oppose Proposition 28 in the strongest terms possible.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of
Supervisors hereby declares its opposition to Proposition 28 and any and all efforts to repeal
Proposition 10.
FASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 22"d day of
February 2000 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Beeler, Houx, Josiassen, Davis and Chair Dolan
