and general economic welfare of this county. depriving its residents of their full capacity for self-
development and advancement: and
WHEREAS, real or perceived hatred or racis-n is a common factor in gang, youth, and adult
violence. Recognizing similarities, honoring the differences, and treating the feelings of all individuals
in our communities with dignity and respect, will help to promote feelings of fairness and objectivity;
and
WHEREAS, the business community is encouraged to provide all residents with equal
opportunities for employment, and to treat their employees in a fair and impartial manner, thereby
allowing full realization of their talents and skills; and
WHEREAS, all communities are encouraged to provide every individual with equal access to
the necessary elements for self=employment,
NOIV, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this Board declares its support for equality,
democracy and unity, and encourages all residents to do their part to foster feelings of comtort, safety
and acceptance regardless of gender, sexual preference, marital status, race, color, language. handicap or
social and economic status.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte Coi~-nty Board of Supervisors this 1 l`~' day of April
