HomeMy WebLinkAbout00-088RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF A COOPERATIVE EFFORT WITH THE YUBA COUNTY WATER AGENCY REGARDING POTENTIAL FLOOll CONTROL PROJECTS ON THE FEATHER-YUBA RIVER SYSTEM FCINDED BY PROPOSITION 13, THE COSTA-MACHADO WATER ACT OF 2000 WHEREAS, the County of Butte as well as many Norrthern California cormties have experienced significant flood damage in the past and are now prone to t7ood conditions that can have devastating economic and social consequences for residents and property within the County; and WHEREAS, Butte County encourages assistance from both the federal and state government to help protect its citizens and property from future flood events; and WHEREAS, Proposition 13, the Costa-Machado Water Act of 2000 provides for $90 million to be set aside for essential Northern California flood control programs on the Feather/tuba River System; and WHEREAS, the Yuba County Water Agency has identified five potential projects to help alleviate flooding along the Feather/Yuba River Systems that would help protect lives and avert billions of dollars in property damages and present massive disruptions in clean water supplies for our families and businesses; and WHEREAS, Yuba County Water Agency has approached the Butte County Board of Supervisors to partner on these projects for the mutual benefit of both entities; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLDED by the Board of Supervisors to support a cooperative effort with the Yuba County Water Agency in pursuit of flood control options on the Feather/Yuba River System funded by the Costa- Machado Water Bond 2000 which will mutually benefit both entities.
