HomeMy WebLinkAbout00-116_Q r,-:~- ,~. >. 00-116 RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING OCTOBER 2000 AS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH WHEREAS, violence against women and children continues to become more prevalent as a social problem due to the imbalance of power due to gender and age; and WHEREAS, the problems of domestic violence are not confined to any groups or groups of people but cross all economic, racial, sexual orientation, and social barriers and are supported by social indifference; and WHEREAS, the crime of domestic violence violates an individuals privacy, dignity, security, and humanity, due to systematic use of physical, emotional, sexual, psychological ar~d economic control andlor abuse; and WHEREAS, the impact of domestic violence is wide-ranging, directly affecting families, our communities and society as a whole. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors, in recognition of the important work done by domestic violence programs, hereby proclaims the month of October 2000 as Butte County Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and further proclaims October 12, 2000, as Teen Relationship Abuse Awareness Day, and urges all citizens to actively participate in the scheduled activities and programs sponsored by the Butte Glenn family Violence Prevention Council to work toward the elimination of personal and institutional violence.
