HomeMy WebLinkAbout00-140WHEREAS, civic clubs, foundations, religious organizations, educational groups and other nonprofit organizations make extraordinary contributions to enrich the everyday lives of citizens Living in Butte County; and WHEREAS, these organizations rely on the generosity of donors who make financial contributions to help support their work, and WHEREAS, fewer than 50% of Americans have a will or estate plan, and of those who do, fewer than 3% make plans to leave a financial legacy for their favorite causes or nonprofit organizations; and WHEREAS, forty trillion dollars is expected to change hands through inheritances in the United States by the year 2040, half in the next two decades alone; and WHEREAS, unless people make plans in their estates or wills to leave something to charity after their heirs are taken care of or make planned gifts during their life, much of the money left behind could be taxed by the government; and WHEREAS, donors and their family members receive tremendous satisfaction from making atax-deductible contribution to a nonprofit organization that helps fund their favorite cause during life and long after they are gone; and WHEREAS, the Leave a Legacy project is a joint initiative of the local nonprofit organizations and professional advisors working to promote interest in planned charitable giving during life or through a will or estate plan; and WHEREAS, Butte College Foundation. North Valley Community Foundation and Paradise Community Foundation are sponsoring the Leave a Legacy program; and WHEREAS, it is easy, financially prudent and personally rewarding to make a planned gift by working with professional advisors. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors does hereby declare November 13-19, 2000 as Leave a Legacy Week in Butte County.
