1976, then elected in 197$, and subsequently elected to the Superior Court in 1989; and
WHEREAS, Judge Rutherford received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1963 from the
University of California, Berkeley, and received her Juris Doctorate in 1967 from Hastings
College of Law; and
WHEREAS. Judge Rutherford was admitted to the State Bar of California, the California
Supreme Court, the U.S. Circuit Court of 1~ppeal, 9`~' Circuit, U.S. District Court-Northern
District in 1967, and to the U.S. District Court-Eastern District in 1969; and
WHEREAS, Judge Rutherford was in the law firms of A. John Merlo from 1968 to
1972, Rutherford & Rutherford in 1972, and as a partner in Houghton & Ioughton from 1972
to 1976; and
WHEREAS, Judge Rutherford is a member of the California Judges' Association and
Cow County Judges' Association; and
WHEREAS, Judge Rutherford has served as faculty for the Judicial Council's Center fc~r
Judicial Education & Research, teaching Evidence, Felony Preliminary Hearings, and Driving
Under the Influence Law: and
WHEREAS. Judge Rutherford has served from 1977 to 1992 as faculty for the
California .fudges" College in the New Municipal Court Judges Orientation Program; and
WHEREAS, Judge Kutherford during her career on the bench has significantly
contributed to the expansion of justice services to the citizens of Butte County through the
implementation of the:
Couples in Conflict Program
Private Drug Diversion Program
Blood Donor Program
Mandatory Insurance Program for Vehicle Code Violators

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board, on its own behalf, and an
behalf of the residents of the County of Butte. would Iike to express their deep appreciation to
Judge Ann H. Rutherford, for her unselfish dedication and exemplary service, having completed
24 years as a Judge of the Butte County Superior Court, and further wish her well on her
retirement.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors on this 9`~' day of
January 2001 by the following vote:
