HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-039WHEREAS, the California Cepartment of Boating and Waterways captures in excess of
$277,000 per year from Butte County boat owners through boat taxes; and
WHEREAS, the Butte County Sheriff's Office and the California Department of Waterways is
concerned for the safety of recreationalists on county waterways; and
WHEREAS, the California Lepartment of Boating and Waterways offers financial aid to
counties to provide boating safety and enforcement aid through the return of the boater taxes to the
county of origin per Harbors and Navigation Code #663.7; and
WHEREAS, the Butte County Sheriff's Office has an opportunity to apply for financial aid in
the amount of $205,00 in addition to the current estimated amount of $40,800 through the Depart~r-ent
of Boating and Waterways; and
WHEREAS, in receipt of this grant the Sheriff's Office could provide water safety services to
users of Lake Oroville, the Sacramento River and the Feather River with the addition of two full-time
deputies and two extra-help deputies.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors
supports the Sherift s Office pursuit of grant funding through the Boating Safety and Enforcement Aid
Program next year and in future years; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors agrees to
authorize utilization of boat tax revenues, as required, via the General Fund for the Sheriff"s Office to
provide additional services, and as augmentation to the Department of Boating and Waterways grant
nett year and in future years.
