HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-051RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE WILD GOOSE STORAGE INC. EXPANSION
WHEREAS, Wild Goose Storage Inc. (WGSI),. California's first independent natural gas
storage facility, has been in operation for two years providing economic benefits to Butte
County, and
WHEREAS, during that period of operation the company has been a good land steward
sensitive to the needs of the waterfowl and farming interests in the area; and
WHEREAS, WGSI is planning an expansion; and
WHEREAS, this expansion will include a 25-mile pipeline to connect the WGSI
compressor station to the PG&E gas transmission lines near Delevan in Colusa County, more
wells at the Wild Goose Club, and some modifications at the compressor station on West Liberty
Road near Gridley; and
WHEREAS, with the current energy situation in California, it is clearly in the best
interest of businesses and consumers to move the application forward at the California Public
Utilities Commission (CPUC) as quickly as possible. and
WHEREAS, Butte County will gain fiirther economic benefits from the construction and
operation of the expansion; and
WHEREAS, WGSI has selected a pipeline route that preserves or enhances wetland
areas in Butte County; and
WHEREAS, all streams, canals and the Sacramento River will be bored to insure
waterer°ays are not impacted; and
WHEREAS, once again there will be a net increase in much needed wetland habitat as a
result of the project; and
WHEREAS, construction of the project will not take place during waterfowl hunting
season; and
WHEREAS, as in the past, WGSI will work closely with hunting clubs and farmers to
insure that appropriate mitigation measures are developed for their lands.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors
supports the expansion of ~'i1d Goose Storage lnc.
PASSED ANll ADOPTED, by the Butte County Baard of Supervisors this 22"`~ day of
May 2001, by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Beeler, Dalan, floux, Yamaguchi and Chair Josassen
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
NOT VOTING: NTOne
