~~~ , II''© .'; ~r ~, =i . v ,~ ,~ , ; , ~,. .,r, Resolution No. O1-102 RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING SEPTEMBER 24-28, 2001 AS GREEN THUMB, EMPLOY THE OLDER WORKER WEEK IN BUTTE COUNTY WHEREAS, Green Thumb9 founded in 1965 after President Lyndon Johnson signed the Older Americans Act, has become the Nation's oldest and largest provider of Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) and training services; and WI~iEREAS, Green Thumh is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to "put experience to work" by empowering mature individuals with a sense of self-worth, recognition that their talents are valuable and enhancing their employability skills with customer-focused training. employment and community service opportunities: and WHEREAS, Green Thumb has been an innovator of mature worker employment and empowerment services through the addition of programs like experience works!~~, mature worker staffing service; National Prime Time Awards Program (NAP"T~-1I'}, where outstanding older workers from each state and America's oldest worker are recognized in our Natian~s Capital each year; geezer.com, an on-line shopping service where older artisans and crafts persons can list their products virtually to a worldwide market; and Information Technology (IT) 't'raining for seniors; and WHEREAS, Green Thumh, in spite of its national sire. continues to work tirelessly in each community it serves, one older person at a time until it empowers over 29,000 persons annually to achieve greater financial independence and provide millions of hours of service to communities all across the nation; and WHEREAS, September 24-28, 2001 is Employ the Older Worker Week. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby proclaims September 24-28, 2001 as ``Green Thumb, Employ the Older Worker Week' in Butte County; and commends Green Thumb for the service it provides to a growing segment of our population by developing and using the talents and skills of one of America's most valuable resources-its older citizens, PASSED AND ADOPTEll by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 25`x' day of September 2001 by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Beeler, Dolan, Houx, Yamaguchi and Chair Josiassen NOES: None ABSENT: None NOT VOT[NG: None ----~ CUR JOSIASSEN, Chair of Supervisors ATTEST: CLERK OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS ~- F)epury ~~;
