RESOLUTION TO DEVELOP F,NFORCEMENT CODES AND ORDINANCES
FOR CONSIDERATION AND APPLICATION IN BUTTE COUNTY
WHEREAS, Butte County contains large areas of rural and mountainous terrain, and is
subject to severe weather conditions that promote the rapid spread of fires; and
WHEREAS, wildfire is the most persistent disaster that strikes Butte County; and
WHEREAS, over the last several years wildfires have destroyed many homes, vehicles,
outbuildings and other valuable property as well as caused the loss of two lives in the Raulson,
Villa, Maidu, Butte Complex, Concow and Poe Fires; and
WHEREAS, future losses may be greatly minimized through the enactment and
enforcement of codes and ordinances designed to minimize the risks of fire damage; and
WHEREAS, fire and the destruction caused therefrom will otherwise continue its cycle
of destruction of lives and property:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of
Supervisors finds that fire is the most persistent disaster that strikes Butte County: and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors finds that
through the enactment of codes and ordinances that respond to the unique hazards faced by
Butte County, the cycle of destruction caused by fires can be minimized and controlled; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby
directs the Butte County Development Services Department and the Butte County Fire
Department to jointly develop codes, ordinances and enforcement measures that would
decrease the exposure of lives and property in Butte County to such threats from tivildlires.
