S. Constitution acknowledges that each person is endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights; and WHEREAS, many people, both famous and unknown, have labored to further the ability of each American to enjoy the full benefits of being a person and citizen of the United States of America; and WHEREAS, through Dr. King's efforts the lives of many Americans were improved by greater understanding and support of these principles and ideas; and WHEREAS, Martin Luther King, Jr., after having been assassinated on April 4, 1968, was recognized as a symbol of moral and social progress to the country by having his birthday designated as a national holiday in 1983. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors does hereby recognize January 21, 2002, as the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., and encourages all residents to acknowledge the value of all people and to participate in activities that honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 8`'' day of .Ianuary 2002 by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Beeler, Dolan, Houx, Yamaguchi and Chair Josiassen NOES: None ABSENT: None NOT VOTING: None `f~,, ~ _y,~` Chayr, Board of Supervisors ATTEST: LAWRENCE D.
