HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-075V • L-''AA f ~~~ ~s O t a : +!~- ~ ^ • • +~ ~+~ BOARD OF SUPERVISORS COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA Resolufion No. o2-ors RESOLUTION IN APPRECIATION OF BATTALION CHIEF DAVF, MINTON WHEREAS, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and the Butte County Fire Department recognize Dave Minton's 35 years of dedicated service; and WHEREAS, Dave Minton began his career as a firefighter in the Oroville L-leadquarters Station in 1967, was promoted to Fire Apparatus Engineer in 1971, and was promoted to Fire Captain in ,ianuary 19"74, where he was assigned to King City. Dave returned to Butte County for assignments to the Robinson Mill Station, Chico Air Attack Base, and Forest Ranch. He was promoted to Battalion Chief in Napa County as Training Chief; and returned to Butte County in 198> as Acting Battalion Chief in charge of Cohasset, Forest Ranch, Butte Meadows and Butte Creek Canyon. In 1986, Dave accepted a position as permanent Battalion Chief and has served as B-2112 for 17 years and 5 months; and WHEREAS, when a train blocked the first due fire engine far a medical emergency, Chief' Minton rushed to the scene where a vehicle had fallen off blocks and landed on a man. Chief Minton provided medical aid by inserting an airway to allow the victim to breathe, thereby providing intervention that saved the man's life; and WHEREAS, Dave Minton was Operation's Chief at a night fire at a Shasta school, and under his leadership and control the fire was mostly confined to two classrooms. Chief Minton salvaged many of the school's belongings. attended a debriefing meeting with the students on their first da_y back to school, and donated to the relief fund to help offset the loss of teaching supplies; and WHEREAS, on August 22, 1999, a series of lightning fires struck in Butte County. Chief Minton was in charge of the Cohasset Ridge Fires, which burned into one large fire also known as the Musty Buck Fire. Utilizing his excellent firefighting and command skills, the fire was controlled at 16,756 acres on August 29, I999. Chief Minton used a huge backfiring operation starting just below Ponderosa Way, along Big Chico Creek, through Bidwell Park and around Richardson Springs back up to Cohasset Ridge. This action saved the communities and allowed for a quick containment of this fire. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Battalion Chief Dave Minton is duly recognized upon his retirement from the Butte County Fire Department and congratulated for his years of hard work and dedication to the citizens of Butte County.
