PROCL,AMAT[ON OF EXISTENCE OF A LOCAL EMERGENCY (by Chief Administrative Officer) WHEREAS, Section 8-5 (i) of the Butte County Code empowers the Chief Administrative Officer of the County of Butte, in the absence of the Board Chair and Vice Chair, to proclaim the existence or threatened existence of a local emergency when said County is affected or likely to be affected by a local emergency and the Board of Supervisors is not in session; and WHEREAS, the Chien Administrative Officer of the County of Butte does hereby find: That conditions of extreme peril to the safety of persons and property have arisen within said County, in that commencing on or about 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2002, a tividespread wind driven fire resulted in the evacuation of populations in the Williams Road area near Butte College. The Red Cross has opened shelters to accommc~~date displaced individuals. These tires have caused, and it is anticipated will continue to cause, wholesale destruction of homes, outbuildings, businesses and local watersheds. That the afr~resaid conditions of extreme peril warrant and necessitate the proclamation of the existence of a local emergency: and That the Board of Supervisors is not in session (and cannot immediately be called into Session). NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY PROCLAIMED that a local emergency exists throughout said County; and fT IS FURTHER PROC[AIMED AND ORDERED that during the existence of said local emergency the powers, functions and duties of the emergency organization of this County shall be those prescribed by state law, by charter, ordinances, and resolutions of this County, and by the County of Butte Emergency Plan, as approved ty the Board of Supervisors on August 10, 199y. ~;~ _r~~ ~~~,~ C~` a~`'` ,~ - -- ~ n .
