RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DEPARTMENT OF WATER AND
RESOURCE CONSERVATION TO WORK IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE
NORTHERN AND COASTAL, CALIFORNIA WATER BOND COALITION TO
CREATE IMPLEMENTATION LANGUAGE FOR FUTURE WATER BONDS
WH[CH WILL PROVIDE FUNDING FOR NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
WHEREAS, the California electorate has approved three statewide bond
initiatives aver the past two years that provided $6.67 billion for water and parks related
programs in the State of California, and an additional bond initiative is now under
preparation for the November 2002 election that would provide an additional 53.44
billion if approved by the voters; and
WHEREAS, development of a regional coalition to organize and promote local
salmon restoration projects for Cunding has proven to be effective in obtaining federal
appropriations totaling $41 million for California, and
WHEREAS, the County of Butte is the home of the headwaters for the State
Water Project and also the headwaters for several salmon bearing streams such as Butte
Creek and Big Chico Creek; and
WHEREAS, the County of Butte contributes important water and habitat related
benefits to the state, and
WHEREAS, the county of Butte has identified several projects, which will
reduire additional state funding as may be provided by future water bond initiatives.
NOW, THEREFORE, BI: I'T RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the
County of Butte hereby finds, determines and declares as follows:
I . A11 of the above recitals are true and correct.
2. The Director of the Department of Water and Resource Conservation is
authorized to work with the Northern and Coastal California Water Bond
Initiative Coalition in the development of implementation language to be
contained in the water bond, which would seek to fund water-related
projects submitted by the County of Butte.
3. The Director of the Department of Water and Resource Conservation is
authorized to include requested funding for Butte County projects
including the Rock Creek/Keefer Slough Flood Control Project, the raising
of Paradise Dam, the Strengthening of Magalia Dam, the two-mile water
delivery project from Lime Saddle to the Upper Ridge, the P.G. &
E.IButte County water swap through the Miocene Canal, and the Butte
Basin groundwater re-charge feasibility study and other projects that may
be identified in the list of projects supported by the Northern and Coastal
California Water Bond Initiative Coalition.
FASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this
