HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-132,~ f ~ 4ti, ~~~ .K~; "f ~ - 4 t, WHEREAS, our Country was founded on the precepts of freedom, liberty, diversity, and the right of people to acknowledge God according to the dictates of conscience; and WHEREAS, House Joint Resolution 81 {HJR 81), in order to secure the people's right to acknowledge God according to the dictates of conscience, proposes an amendment to the Constitution of the United States restoring religious freedom and which shall be valid to all intents and purposes as part of the Constitution when ratified by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several States within seven years after the date of its submission for ratification; and WHEREAS, HJR 81 provides that neither the United States nor any State shall establish any official religion, but the people's right to pray and to reeogniz_e their religious beliefs, heritage, and traditions on public property, including schools, shall not be infringed; and WHF.RF AS, F-IJR 81 provides that the United Slates and the States shall not compose school prayers, nor require any person to join in prayer or other religious activity; and WHEREAS, the Butte County Board of Supervisors urges all cities and counties across the United States to join in a grassroots effort to reinstate prayer in the public schools by passing similar resolutions.
