BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
GOUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
Resolution No. oz-~~+~
RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING SEPTEMBER 8, 2002,
AS NATIONAL GRANDPARENTS DAY
WHEREAS, 19.69 percent of the population in Butte County is comprised of seniors
{persons aged 60 years and older); and
WHEREAS, the majority of seniors are grandparents; and
WHEREAS, grandparents can provide positive role models of active aging; and
WHEREAS, grandparents are a source of knowledge and support for younger generations;
and
WHEREAS, grandparents serve as teachers, mentors, and role models for the generations
that follow them; and
WHEREAS, more and more grandparents are the central figures in the rearing of their
grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, the growth of such programs as foster Grandparents and Grandparents as
Parents attest to the value of that special relationship between grandparents and grandchildren.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors
hereby proclaims September 8, 2002, as National Grandparents Day in Butte County.
PASSED AND ADOPTED, by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 27`" day of
August 2002 by the following vote:
