RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF NAMIN(U THE CONFERENCE ROOM
OF THE GRIDLEY LIBRARY IN MEMORY OF NORA WILEY
WHEREAS, Nora Wiley was instrumental in the building of the Gridley Library as well as the
Chico Library; and
WHEREAS, she lobbied for several years to raise funds and finally was able to establish a private
corporation, in which she served as treasurer:. and
WHEREAS, the bonds were raised and her dream became a reality in 1982; anc'.
WHEREAS, Mrs. Wiley's love of the library continued as she was very active state-wide with the
library and also in the local community, serving as President of the Friends of California Libraries in ] 985;
chair of North State Cooperative Library System Advisory F~~ard in 1979; treasurer of Butte County Library
Corporation 1980-92; councilor-at-large of the California Library Association in 1988; and Literary Chair of
the California Association of Library Trustees and Commissioners in 1988; and
WHEREAS, Nora also served as a tutor in the Gridley Literacy Center in 1983-89; and
WHEREAS, she also formed the first Gridley Friends of the Library, serving as the first president of
the organization; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Wiley loved to read and was instrumental in organizing summer reading
programs for the young people, Those programs are still being done locally each summer in Gridley.
NO~%V, `THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors supports
the naming of the conference room of the Gridley Library m memory of Nora Wiley for her years of
unf:~iling devotion and efforts for the Gridley Library.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board af` Supervisors this 24`~ day of September
2002 by the following vote:
