RESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION OF THE GRIDLEY KIWANIS CLUB
50 YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY
WHEREAS, the Gridley Kiwanis Club is celebrating its 50th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, the Gridley Kiwanis Club became an idea in 1952 with the Live Oak chapter
sponsoring its inception; and
WHEREAS, the Club, chartered in 1953, began with 29 members. Its first president was
Warner G. Butterfield; and
WHEREAS, fund raising activities include a vehicle parking concession at the Annual Dog
Show and the Butte County Fair, and selling Fourth of July fireworks; and
WHEREAS, Gridley Kiwanis Club sponsors and provides support to several youth
organizations such as the Gridley High School Key Club, Gridley Tiny Tots, Daisy Girl Scouts, and
the Guardian Teen Youth Center; and
WHEREAS, Gridley Kiwanis Club has sponsored individual students to state and national
activities. The Club also offers two scholarships to graduating seniors, one in vocational education
and another for academic achievement; and
WHEREAS, Gridley members have been honored over the years for their service to the
community at the city, county and state levels.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors
recognizes the contributions of the Gridley Kiwanis Club to the community during the past 50 years.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 8th day of April
2003 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Dolan, Houx, Josiassen, Yamaguchi and Chair Beeler
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
