RESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION OF MANUEL A. ESTEBAN
UPON HIS RETIREMENT AS
PRESIDENT OF CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, CHICO
WHEREAS, California State University, Chico, President Manual A. Esteban came to
CSU, Chico, in August 1993 and will retire as president in August 2003 after ten years of
outstanding service to the education of young people throughout California and the nation; and
WHEREAS, during his ten-year tenure and leadership, the University developed its
Strategic Plan for the Future of CSU, Chico, the University was successfully reaccredited by the
Western Association of Schools and Colleges, and the University Research Foundation was
created; and
WHEREAS, his outstanding record of service to the Greater Chico community includes
membership in and dedication to the goals of the Chico Rotary, the Greater Chico Chamber of
Commerce, the Enloe Medical Center Board of Trustees, and the Sierra Health Foundation
Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, through his efforts, the cultural and educational well-being of this
community has been improved by his encouragement that the development of such programs at
CSU, Chico, be made available to the citizens of Butte County; and
WHEREAS, through his efforts, California State University, Chico, and the Butte
County Board of Supervisors have collaborated on such projects as the Big Chico Creek
Ecological Preserve, environmental research grants, and Butte County economic development.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors
takes great pleasure in commending Dr. Manuel A. Esteban on the occasion of his retirement as
President of California State University, Chico, and recognizes and thanks him for his vision and
devotion in forging a relationship of friendship and good will between California State
University, Chico, and Butte County.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 22"d day of
April, 2003, by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Dolan, Houx, Josiassen, Yamaguchi and Chair Beeler
