HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-067RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING MAY 15, 2003, AS "PEACE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL DAY" AND THE WEEK OF MAY 12-16 AS "POLICE WEEK" WHEREAS, in 1962 President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation recognizing May 15tH each year as "Peace Officers' Memorial Day" and the week in which May 15th falls as "Police Week"; and WHEREAS, in 2002 nine California Peace Officers died in the line-of--duty while protecting their communities. These nine officers will be memorialized on May 9th in Sacramento; and WHEREAS, in a five-year time span, the Butte County Sheriff's Office lost three deputies in the line-of duty. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby proclaims May 15`h as Peace Officers' Memorial Day and the week of May 12-16, 2003, as Police Week in Butte County; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors recognizes the significant contributions of Deputy Sheriffs in Butte County and the ultimate sacrifice of Deputy Jennings, Lt. Estes and Deputy Hunter in protecting the citizens of Butte County.
