"BILL" SAGER WHEREAS, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF Fire) provides fire-rescue protection under a cooperative agreement with the County of Butte, and has done so since 1931 as the Butte County Fire Department (BCFD); and WHEREAS, William R. "Bill" Sager has served as the CDF and BCFD Fire Chief since May 1, 1999, retiring on May 31, 2003; and WHEREAS, Chief Sager was born January 3, 1942, in Berkeley, California, and graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1966. Chief Sager entered the U. S. Navy on November 11, 1966, and completed his tour of service as a Lieutenant on November 9, 1969, after serving in the Vietnam War. Chief Sager joined CDF on October 1, 1971, in Fresno and transferred to Butte County as the Battalion 6 Commander in 1976. Chief Sager was promoted to Division Chief in 1985, and to Fire Chief in 1999; and WHEREAS, during Chief Sager's tenure as Fire Chief there have been many departmental changes including major impustomer service,efirepand resc ueatraining and station staffing, fire station replacement, community involvement, and community fire protection planning; and WHEREAS, Chief Sager continually and diligently worked with the Butte County Board of Supervisors always ensuring effective communications, coordination and cooperation, and ensured that taxpayers always received the most cost effective fire protection; and WHEREAS, Chief Sager always involved the Board of Supervisors in emergency activities, mitigated emergencies in the most expedient and cost effective manner, and provided after action reports to the Board. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby commends and congratulates Fire Chief William R. "Bill" Sager for his outstanding service to the citizens of Butte County, and e xtends to Chief Sager and his family its best wishes for a wonderful retirement.
