Resolution No. 03-092
RESOLUTION IN APPRECIATION OF JIM GILES, VOLUNTEER FIRE CHIEF
WHEREAS, the Butte County Fire Department recognizes Jim Giles for 25 years of dedicated
service to the citizens of Concow, Yankee Hill, and the greater Butte County area; and
WHEREAS, Jim Giles became a charter member of the Golden Feather Volunteer Fire Company
as A ssistant C hief i n 1977 a nd b ecame C hief in 1 978, s erving i n that c apacity u ntil h is r etirement i n
December of 2002; and
WHEREAS, during the past 25 years Jim Giles has been instrumental in obtaining, outfitting and
maintaining fire apparatus, equipment, and facilities for the Golden Feather Fire Company; and
WHEREAS, Jim Giles was instrumental in recently purchasing a state of the art water tender and
constructing a new apparatus building bringing the fire company up to two fire stations, two fire engines,
two water tenders, and one rescue squad; and
WHEREAS, during the Raulson, Concow, Poe, and Highway 70 fires which were devastating to
the Yankee Hill and Concow communities, Chief Giles, in addition to staffing a fire engine and water
tender, provided leadership to the fire company and community; and
WHEREAS, Jim Giles has responded to hundreds of fires, medical emergencies, traffic
collisions, and requests for help from the public in his community and throughout Butte County and
participated in many community events.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Volunteer Fire Chief Jim Giles is duly
recognized upon his retirement from the Butte County Fire Department and congratulated for his years of
hard work and dedication to the citizens of Butte County.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 10`'' day of June 2003
by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Dolan, Houz, Josiassen, Yamaguchi, and Chair Beeler
