HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-122r-„~ 0_.. :ft~- • ~. o . ©; ~~ ;. ~ ~` _~'~ BOARD 0~ SUPERVISORS ~~ ~~~ :~~ ,¢ ~ i ~. :"'a~s COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA • • ~'~- ••••.....~•• • Resolution No. 03-122 ~~'! /~ ~••M• RESOLUTION IN APPRECIATION OF SANDRA ACEBO UPON HER RETIREMENT FROM BUTTE-GLENN COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT WHEREAS, Sandra Acebo graduated from Duke University with a major in Zoology in 1.965; and WHEREAS, after serving as a laboratory technician in a kidney dialysis unit, Sandra received a master's degree in English from the University of Florida in 1968; and WHEREAS, Sandra's first teaching assignment was at the Lowell Correctional Institute, a state prison for women in Florida. She helped prepare inmates to pass the GED exam; and WHEREAS, Sandra went on to teach at community colleges; first at Santa Fe Cammunity College in Gainesville, then Diablo Valley College, Chabot College, and ultimately Los M.edanos College in Pittsburg, California; and WHEREAS, Sandra taught English for ten years, served as the Dean for Language Arts and Humanistic Studies for eight years, and consulted for the Writing Center at University of California, Berkeley; and WHEREAS, subsequently on sabbatical, Sandra completed her doctorate in Educational Administration at the University of Texas in Austin under a fellowship from the Kellogg Foundation; and WHEREAS, in 1989 Dr. Acebo was selected as Vice President for instruction at De Anza College, a post she held for nine years; and WHEREAS, in 1998 Dr. Acebo became President of Butte Callege in Oroville; and WHEREAS, under Dr. Acebo's leadership, the college has set a vision not only of excelling in teaching and learning, but an expectation that the college will be a center of community development and dialogue concerning regional growth and development; and WHEREAS, it is a great pleasure to see the results of Dr. Acebo's efforts; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors, on its own behalf and on behalf of the residents of the County of Butte, would like to express its deep appreciation to Dr. Sandra Acebo for her support and contributions to the students of this county, and further wish her well on her retirement. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 12`x' day of August 2003 by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Dolan, Houx, Josiassen, Yamaguchi and Chair Beeler NOES: None ABSENT: None NOT VOTING: None R.
