Resolution No. 04-0~ a
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE BOARD TO
DIRECT $5,000 OUT OF THE HEAL ROAD LANDFILL
ENTERPRISE FUND TO SUPPORT A PILOT CURBSIDE
GREENWASTE INCENTIVE PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the County of Butte recognizes that it is in the public interest to
enact and implement an integrated waste management plan to address the State's
diminishing landfill capacity and the potential adverse environmental impacts from
landfilling; and
WHEREAS, as pant of its plan to consen~e landf 11 capacity and address potential
enviromnental impacts from landfilling, the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte
adopted the Source Reduction and Recycling Element and Household Hazardous Waste
Element on November 10, 1992, which Elements are included in the Butte County
Integrated Waste Management Plan; and
WHEREAS, the County of Butte, in its 1066 Plan of Correction filed with the
California Integrated Waste Manage Board, identifies Greenwaste as a significant
potential source of landfill diversion; and
WHEREAS, the County of Butte acknowledges that certain waste streams must
be targeted to achieve the requirements of AB939 and to complete the implementation of
selected recycling programs identified in the County's Source Reduction Recycling
Element; and
WHEREAS, optimal uti}ization of Curbside Greenwaste would be a cost
effective means to help achieve the State mandated. diversion goal of 50%.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of
Supervisors authorizes the Department of Public Works to allocate the sum of $5,000 out
of the Neal Road Landfill Enterprise fund for a pilot project for the purpose of increasing
participation in the Curbside Greenwaste Program. Area targeted for the pilot project is
the County land bordered by East Lindo Avenue, The Esplanade, West Eighth Avenue
and the Railroad tracks.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors, County of Butte, State
of California, this 10t~' day of February, 2004 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Dolan, Houx, Josiassen, Yamaguchi. and Chair Beeler
