RESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION OF WILLIAM H. "BILL" OLSON
UPON RETIREMENT FROM THE
BUTTE COUNTY FARM, HOME & 4-H ADVISOR'S OFFICE
WHEREAS, the University of California Cooperative Extension operates through a
unique partnership between the Land Grant University of California, U. S. Department ofi
Agriculture, and the County of Butte, and has done so since 1918 as the Butte County Farm,
Home & 4-H Advisor's Office; and
WHEREAS, William H. "Bill" Olson has served as Farm Advisor from January 2, 1973,
and County Department Head nearly l0 years, retiring on June 14, 2004; and
WHEREAS, William H. "Bill" Olson graduated from San Jose State University and
received his Master of Science degree from the University of California, Berkeley, in 197?. Bill
Olson started employment with University of California in September 1967, completing 37 years
of service.
WHEREAS, William H. "Bill" Olson is recognized as a leading authority in California
and internationally on walnut and prune culture; and
WHEREAS, William H. "Bill" Olson has been instrumental in reduced farming input
techniques in controlling prune pests thereby reducing environmental contamination, and
provided leadership with walnut pest research; and
WHEREAS, William H. "Bill" Olson provided leadership in forming the University of
California Cooperative Extension Butte County Farm, Home and 4-H Support Group; and
WHEREAS, William H. "Bill" Olson's outstanding extension programs have
demonstrated his commitment to the long-term sustainability of the commodities he worked
with; and
WHEREAS, William H. "Bill" Olson's continual and diligent work as Department Head
significantly benefited the services provided to the citizens of Butte County and sustainability of
Butte County Cooperative Extension.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors
hereby commends and congratulates William H. "Bill" Olson for his outstanding service to the
agricultural community and citizens of Butte County, and extends to William H. "Bill" Olson
and his family its best wishes for a wonderful retirement.
PASSED AND ADOP'CED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 9`~' day of
March 2004 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Dolan, Houx, Josiassen, Yamaguchi and Chair Beeler
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
NOT VOTING: Norte
