HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-040~~~' .• ~' y w ~ 7f S• # ~ .~~ ~~~l~ar• BOARD QF SUPERV1~t~R~ COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA Reso~ufion No. o~-ono A PROCLAMATION CELEI3RA'1 ING 40 YEAKS OI• CONIMUNI'1 Y ACTION WHEREAS, the United States of America was established to promote freedom and opportunity for people who have come from all across the world for various reasons; and, WHEREAS, the Constitution of the United States of America includes the concept of "promoting the general welfare" as a key element of this country's core values; and, WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States of America has historically recognized that all residents have certain "inalienable rights" that need to be respected and protected; and WHEREAS, the Equal Opportunity Act was adopted in 1964 by Congress in response to the wishes of the American people to express and manifest the respect and protection needed to promote greater opportunities for low-income residents; and WHEREAS, for 40 years communities all across the United States of America have enjoyed an incredible legacy of accomplishment by community action agencies that have helped millions of children, families, and individuals move themselves out from under the yoke of povel-ty; and WHEREAS, the County of Butte has promoted self-sufficiency through the efforts of the Community Action Agency of Butte County, Inc., that has provided opportunities and services including Head Start Preschool and InfantlToddler Services, Residential WeatherizationlHousing Rehabilitation, Senior Nutrition, Esplanade House Transitional .H.ousing for Homeless Families, Food Distribution, Utility Assistance, and Housing Development for Homeownership Opportunities; and WHEREAS, the continued application of community action principles and methods is needed to further the accomplishments to promote self-sufficiency opportunities for our residents. NOW, 1'HEREORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, State of California, in regular session on March 23, 2004, acknowledges the accomplishments of the Community Action Agency of Butte County, Inc., to promote self- sufficiency and opportunity, and further supports the continuation of efforts to achieve greater results for the benefit of this community, state, and country.
