MICHAEL V. PIERCE
WHEREAS, this Board expresses its appreciation to Michael V. Pierce for his years of
service to the citizens of Butte County; and
WHEREAS, Michael Pierce moved to Butte County in 1977 and has resided here
continuously since that time; and
WHEREAS, prior to moving to Oroville, he served in the United. States Navy from 1960-
] 963 and was honorably discharged in l 963 after monitoring two atmospheric nuclear tests while
on duty in the South Pacific; and
WHEREAS, Michael was a longtime member of the Oroville Chamber of Commerce and
served as their representative on the Oroville Recreation Advisory Committee {known as "ORAL");
and
WHEREAS, he also served District 1 as Supervisor Bob Beeler's alten~ate on ORAC and
ultimately became Vice Chairman of ORAC; and
WHEREAS, Michael has participated in bowling activities in Oroville for many years,
serving as Oroville Bowling Association President in 1993; and
WHEREAS, since 2000 Michael has been a valuable and integral part of the Butte County
Lake Oroville Relieensing team, focusing primarily on recreational and socio-economic issues,
always striving to achieve the greatest benefit possible for District 1 and the entire Butte County
community in a tireless and selfless manner; and
WHEREAS, Michael was appointed to the Butte County Water Commission on January 9,
2001 and has served to the present time and has among other things, regularly updated the Water
Commission on Lake Oroville relicensing issues; participated in the Integrated Watershed
Stakeholders Group on the development of the Integrated Water Resources Plan; participated in the
Integrated Water Resources Plan Steering Committee; helped develop the drafts and final version

of the Basin Management Objective Ordinance; and established the need statement for a Water
Replenishment District; and
WHEREAS, Michael has represented the County of Butte in a positive, energetic,
productive, and ethical mamler in dealing with various state and federal agencies, local public
entities, and the citizens of Butte County,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this Board, on its o~vn behalf and on behalf
of the residents of Butte County, expresses their deep appreciation for the lmselfish dedication and
devotion given by Michael V. Pierce during his years of service to the County of Butte.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, State
of California, on the 13th day of April 2004 by the following votes:
AYES: Supervisors Dolan, Houx, Josiassen, Yamaguchi and Chair Beeler
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
