HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-080 ~3C)ARD Off' ~UPER~1~±~.7R~ COU(~tTY OF BUTTE, ' ~aTATE OF CAL(FC7RNFA Rc~solufion No. o~-ogo RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING WILDFIRE AWARENESS WEEK IN BUTTE COUN'T'Y WHEREAS, the week of May 9 - 15, 2004, has been declared "Wildfire Awareness Week" in the State of California; and WHEREAS, Butte County is especially prone to large and damming wildfires; and WHEREAS, these fires burn in and amongst homes built in the populated "wildland urban interface" areas of Butte County causing loss of life, injury, and millions of dollars in damages; and WHEREAS, local Fire Safe Councils, CDF FirelButte County Fire Department, and educational campaigns like "Wildfire Awareness Week" are important tools in the education of Butte County residents as to the critical wildfire dangers present in Butte County, and WHEREAS, the efforts of local homeowners in taking fire safe measures around their homes substantially increases the chance of their home surviving a wildf-ire; and WHEREAS, large and damming wildfires in Butte County are a matter of "when" not "it". NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors recognizes the week of May 9 - 15, 2004, as "Wildfire Awareness Week" as part of an ongoing effort to educate County residents about wildfire.
