HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-086F30ARD OF SUPERVISORa COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA I~Esolufion No. o4-os6 RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING MAY 15, 2004, AS "PEACE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL DAY" AND THE WEEK OF MAY 9-15 AS "POLICE WEEK" WHEREAS, in 1962 President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation recognizing May 15`t' each year as "Peace Officers' Memorial Day" and the week in which May 15`h falls as "Police Week"; and WHEREAS, in 2003, seventeen California Peace Officers died in the line-of-duty while protecting their commw~ities. This is an 89% increase from the 2002 line-of-duty deaths. These seventeen officers will be memorialized on May 7`~' in Sacramento and on May 15`x' in Washington, D.C.; and WHEREAS, in a five-year time span, the Butte County Sheriff's Office lost three deputies in the line-of duty; and WHEREAS, as a symbol of respect to those who have laid down their lives in the line of duty and a show of support to law enforcement officers working the streets, blue ribbons are flown on personal cars and patrol cars during Police Week. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby proclaims May 15°i as Peace Officers' Memorial Day and the week of May 9-15, 2004, as Police Week in Butte County; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors recognizes public law 103-322 directing the flag be flown at half staff on Peace Officers' Memorial Day.
