RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING NATIONAL DRUG COURT MONTH
AND
ESTABLISHING BUTTE COUNTY DRUG COURT WEEK
WHEREAS, drug courts provide the focus and leadership for community-wide, anti-drug
systems, bringing together criminal justice, treatment, education and other community partners in the
fight against drug abuse and criminality; and
WHEREAS, drug court programs combine intensive judicial supervision, mandatory drug
testing, escalating sanctions and treatment, effectively breaking the cycle of drug addiction and its
concomitant crime; and
WHEREAS, the judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, probation, treatment and rehabilitation
professionals, law enforcement and corrections personnel, researchers and educators, national and
community leaders and others dedicated to the movement have made a profound impact through their
hard work and commitment to their communities; and
WHEREAS, the drug court movement has grown from the first drug court established in 1989 to
over 1,300 drug courts cw-rently in operation or in the planning stages.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors
recognizes May 2004 as "National Drug Court Month" and establishes May 23-29, 2004, "Drug Court
Week" in Butte County.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors recognizes the
practitioners who make drug courts work and the significant contributions that drug courts have made and
continue to make, in reducing drug usage and crime.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 11°i day of May 2004
by the following vote:
