HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-2219 Bi~A~D ~J1= ~J~~~VI~~>~ ~QUWTY OF E~3UTTEi STATE t:?F CALlFQRN_IA~ hesolution No. o4-z21 RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING DECEMBER 2004 AS DRUNK AND DRUGGED llRIVING YREVEN'I'ION MONTH IN BUTTE COUNTY WHEREAS, motor vehicle crashes kill over 40,000 people and injure three million every year, at a cost to society of some $1.50 billion annually; and WHEREAS, alcohol-related crashes account for approximately 40 percent of those deaths and injuries; and WHEREAS, the December holiday season is traditionally one of the most deadly times of the year for alcohol-impaired driving; anti WHEREAS, the Butte County Department of Behavioral Health will be celebrating Drunk and Drugged Driving (3D) Prevention Month through Project Downshift's Commitment Petition; and WHEREAS, community members will be committing to not drink and drive, and ensuring that they will be positive adult role models by not having alcohol as the main focus this holiday season; and WHEREAS, organizations from around the community are joining together to °Take a Stand Against hnpaired Driving" this December by supporting anti-impaired driving programs such as DUI Checkpoints, Lights on fc~r Life, and Project Downshift; and WHEREAS, the County of Butte is a partner in that effort to make our roads and streets safer. NOW,1'IILREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby proclaims December 2004 as National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month in the County of Butte, and hereby calls upon all citizens, government agencies, business leaders, hospitals, schools, and public and private institutions in County at Butte to promote awareness of the impaired driving problem, to support programs and policies to reduce the incidence of impaired driving, to promote safer and healthier behaviors regarding the use of alcohol and other drugs, and to provide opportunities for all to participate in "Take a Stand Against Impaired Driving" this December holiday season and throughout the year. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 14`h day of December 200d by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Dolan, Haux, Josiassen, Yamaguchi and Chair Beeler NOES None ABSENT: None NOT VOTING: None ~' ,. r,~ C C- R.
