RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE PURCHASE OF AMERICAN-MADE VEHICLES AND
RESCINDING RESOLUTION N0.92-OS THAT OCCASIONALLY PREVENTED
THE PURCHASE OF AMERICAN-MADE VEHICLES
WHEREAS, changes in the world vehicle manufacturing industry have resulted in foreign
ownership of traditionally American-Brand vehicles that are, in some instances, manufactured
entirely outside the United States of America while numerous traditionally foreign brand vehicles are
assembled in the United States of America, and
WHEREAS, continued compliance with Resolution No. 92-OS could result in a requirement
to purchase vehicles manufactured offshore by a foreign automobile company while prohibiting the
purchase of a vehicle assembled in the United States, and
WHEREAS, both traditionally American-Brand and foreign brand vehicles are assembled in
Mexico and in Canada, and
WHEREAS, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFI'A) does not permit the
imposition of a preference for products manufactured in the United States over products
manufactured in Canada or Mexico.
NOW, 'THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors adopts this
resolution to support the purchase of American-made vehicles and to rescind Resolution No. 92-OS
that occasionally required the purchase of foreign-made vehicles and/or prevented the purchase of
American-made vehicles.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 11`x' day of
January 2005 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Dolan, Houx, Josiassen and Chair Yama`;uchi
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
NOT VOTING: None -
