RESOLUTION IN APPRECIATION OF
CHIEF JACK B. STORNE
UPON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE
GRIDLEY-BIGGS POLICE DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, Jack B. Storne served our country in the United States Marine Corps from
1961 to 1965; and
WHEREAS, after leaving the service, Jack went on to college. He obtained his AA in
Education from Modesto Junior College, then continued his education, receiving a Bachelors
Degree in Psychology, a Masters Degree in Public Administration, a Masters Degree in
Psychology, all from Stanislaus State College, and a Ph.D. from Columbia Pacific University
School of Health & Human Services; and
WHEREAS, he began his law enforcement career in April of 1968 with the Hayward
Police Department. In June of 1969, Jack became a Police Officer for the City of Sandpoint,
Idaho. In September 1970 he went to Lakewood, Colorado as a Police Agent; and
WHEREAS, in May of 1974, Jack Storne was hired as a Police Patrolman for the City of
Escalon, California. From 1974 through December of 1992, he worked many assignments
including Police Sergeant, Administrative Assistant to the City Manager, Chief of Police, City
Manager/Chief of Police, and City Manager/Director of Public Safety; and
WHEREAS, Jack Storne was hired by the City of Gridley as Police Chief in January of
1993 where he has served for twelve years, including the past three years as chief for both the
City of Gridley and the City of Biggs ;and
WHEREAS, he has been very active in law enforcement issues, serving on the Butte
College Public Safety Program Advisory Board, Butte County Emergency Medical Care
Committee, Butte Inter-Agency Narcotics Task Force (BINTF) Advisory Board, CA Police
Chiefs' Association -board of directors, Central Sierra Police Chiefs' Association -past
president, Northern CA Cities S&H Insurance Fund -Risk Management Committee; and
WHEREAS, Chief Storne is a certified Red Cross instructor for blood-borne pathogens,
an instructor for Northern CA Emergency Medical Services in automatic electric defibrillators
and a AAA certified instructor for the driver improvement program; and
WHEREAS, Jack is a member of the GUARDIAN (Gridlians United Against Rising
Drugs is a Necessity) Board, a lifetime member and past president of the Gridley Kiwanis Club,
and ~i member of the Church of the Brethren in Live Oak; and
WHEREAS, after 37 years of unselfish dedication and devotion to law enforcement,
Jack Storne is retiring on February 28, 2005; and
WHEREAS, it is a great pleasure to see his dedication to the community.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board, on its own behalf, and on
behalf of the residents of the County of Butte, would like to express their deep appreciation to
Jack B. Storne for his support and contributions to the citizens of this county, and further wish
him well on his retirement.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 8`~ day of
February 200.5, by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Dolan, Houx, Josiassen and Chair Yamaguchi
