HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-050BDA~LD 4~ ~UPERVIO~~~r COUNTY OF BUTTE; STATE OF CALIFORNIA Resolution No. os-oso RESOL UTION RECOGNIZING BUTTE COUNTYSHERIFF'S OFFICE VOLUNTEERS WHEREAS, April is National Volunteer Appreciation Month and the Butte County Sheriff's Office would like to recognize the hundreds of volunteers who have dedicated hundreds of thousands ol~ hours to this Ottice and the community. WHEREAS, the STARS program has over 1 15 members who do an exceptional job as the "eyes and ears"' of the Sheriff's Office. Since its inception in ] 993, STARS personnel have volunteered more than 412,000 hours to the Sheriff's Office, other law enforcement agencies, and the citizens of Butte County. STARS personnel have patrolled in excess of 614,000 miles of county streets and roads and continuously participate in numerous crime prevention activities. WHEREAS, the Butte County Sheriffs Reserve Deputies have spent countless hours working as extra help Deputy Sheriffs on patrol, investigations, in the courts and jails. In 2004 alone, the 12 Reserve Deputies volunteered over 1,100 hours. The Reserve Deputies have been a noteworthy contribution to the furtherance of the goals and mission of the Butte County Sheriffs Office. WHEREAS, the Butte County Sheriffs Office Search and Rescue Unit founded in 1961, boasts 40 volunteers who donate approximately 8,700 hours per year. The Search and Rescue Unit assists law enforcement with rescues, searches for lost or missing subjects, body recoveries, public evacuations in case of natural disasters, and much more. WHEREAS, the Butte County Honorary Deputies Association was founded in 1983 to provide monetary support for Butte County Law Enforcement. Since then, the 45 members of the Association have donated over $80,000 to local law enforcement. WHEREAS, the Butte County Communication Reserves consists of 23 personnel who last year alone dedicated 1,800 hours. The Communication Reserves provide additional communications for the Sheriffs Office and CDF, provide support during fires and other emergencies, and perform other special functions. WHEREAS, the 26 members of the Butte County Posse volunteer when needed for Search and Rescue, natural disasters, floods, fires, and other emergencies. Founded in 1941, the Posse promotes the pioneering spirit of our forefathers and supports horse events and activities in the Butte County community. WHEREAS, the five members of the Butte County Sheriffs Office Chaplaincy Corps have donated over 2,400 hours of service since 2000. The Chaplains assist law enforcement personnel in providing support to victims and families of victims of crime. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors recognizes the importance of the Butte County Sheriffs Office volunteers and the positive impact they have both at the Butte County Sheriffs Office and in the community.
