RESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION OF
BUTTE COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT JUDGE DARRELL W. STEVENS
WHEREAS, Judge Stevens received his legal education at Golden Gate University,
School of Law, graduating with honors and receiving his Doctor of Jurisprudence in 196.5; and
WHEREAS, Judge Stevens was admitted into the California and Federal Bars in 1966,
and practiced law in Oroville and Chico, California, from 1966 to 1989 with an emphasis on real
property, business, and banking law and litigation; and
WHEREAS, Judge Stevens was appointed to the bench by Governor George
Deukmejian on May 5, 1989, and was elected without opposition in 1990 and 1996; and
WHEREAS, Judge Stevens was the first judge of the Butte County Drug Court,
Juvenile Drug Court, Domestic Violence Court, Proposition 36 Court, and High Intensity Drug
Enforcement Court; and
WHEREAS, Judge Stevens' dedication and commitment to Drug Court Programs and
Collaborative Courts has had a profound impact on the lives of its participants.
WHEREAS, Judge Stevens has been a lecturer, instructor, and speaker at numerous
conferences and training seminars throughout the United States, with an emphasis on Drug
Courts and other Collaborative Courts; and
WHEREAS, Judge Stevens received the California Judicial Council Ralph Kleps Award
for Innovative Court Programs for Small Claims Mediation Program, Small Claims Goes to
School Program, Graffiti Removal Program, Revia Alcohol Treatment Program, Downtown
Chico Cleanup Program, Reality Check Program, and State Bar of California Volunteer Legal
Services Award; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his judicial and professional career, Judge Stevens has been a
very active member of the community and a member of many civic, service, and fraternal
organizations, and he is a founding member of the Boys and Girls Club of Chico. He has also
been the recipient of several awards and recognitions for his community service activities such as
Peacemaker of the Year, and Citizen of the Year.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of
Supervisors expresses its sincere appreciation to Judge Darrell W. Stevens for his 16 years of
dedication and exemplary service as a Judge for the County of Butte, and further wishes him
well on his retirement.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 26`h day of
April 2005 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Dolan, Houx, Josiassen and Chair Yamaguchi
